My family is the center of my world. It’s always been that way. There are five of us in our family core- my husband and our three children. My husband was a career military man. For nearly twenty years, the five of us traveled the world and made lots of friends. But we always found our friendships to be transitory. Whenever orders came for a new posting we would be forced to move. This meant we lost touch with our old friends. This became a pattern of our lives.
After my husband’s retirement, we returned home and settled into a secluded life in the Maine woodlands. I have found contentment here, although I sometimes feel a bit deprived of outside influences. I find myself going on frequent shopping trips, eager to converse with sales associates, who, being trapped behind their sales counters, are forced to politely listen. On any given day, I might engage some poor sales associate at Walmart in a stimulating political debate, or ask a busy sales associate at Target to give me gardening advice.
Now when I go into my favorite discount stores the associates seem relieved when, after I give them a smile, I turn and go! Because I have found to my delight a much happier home for my eager chatter – here at AC! Here at AC I can ramble on unabashed about the most ordinary things. I take great pleasure in reading your profound offerings. I get from you the very best advice on gardening and health. I find wonderful places to travel; I can find new recipes; and get help on deciding what movie to watch or book to read! Whenever I need answers, they are just waiting ‘out there” for me to find them!
I am inspired each day to laugh out loud or cry by so many wise words. People who were once strangers I now rely on with only the “clickety-clack” of my keyboard… you’re back! For this I am most grateful.
There is a magical feel to it all. I am new to the computer world and I like it! It is exciting to be in “the thick” of a place so vibrant and yet approachable. Even a “loner” like me can keep my fingers on the pulse of what is happening. This is the “new way of things,” and it is grand!
I will be writing short bits about my life in poems and memoirs. I will share a recipe or two, and even tell you about children’s books that are special to my family. These are things that have meaning for me. I am in hopes that, like the pieces of a quilt sown together, these little snippets of my life make a complete story. These everyday parts of our lives are what hold the keys to the past and the future. For me, AC is a new voice to record our everyday history.
