Microsoft has just released the newest version of the Xbox 360. How does this new Xbox 360 stand up to the previous Xbox 360? Is the new Xbox 360 worth the cost and what features does the new Xbox 360 features that the previous Xbox 360 does not? All these questions will be answered below.
The new Xbox 360 has a few major new features and then some smaller differences as well. The new Xbox 360 has 5 usb ports instead of 3 which is useful for games like Rock Band but all this does is fix the problem of having a 3rd port when you need a 4th, and why in the world do you have a 5th port? The new Xbox 360 does include and Auxiliary port but again it is not something that really adds much to the Xbox 360. They are also eliminating the 120gb option and will only have a 250gb option. These changes are not much and certainly not worth the extra cost of the unit. These changes are ok as long as you have other new features as well but these changes do not warrant discontinuing the current Xbox 360 models.
Some changes and advantages that the new Xbox 360 is is that it is smaller and it is even quieter. The reason that it is quieter is because it has one large fan instead of two fans, the single large fan should help keep the console cooler with changes added to the venting as well. This is not a major improvement either but more of a nice fix. The smaller size though will be nice because if you go to play at LAN’s or just bring your console to a friends house it will be a little easier to bring. It also includes wi-fi which could be one of the most important reasons to get the new Xbox 360 because you will save the money buying a peripheral to get Wi-Fi. One intresting feature that may just end up being gimmicky is touch sensitive buttons but it may be technology that is to new and over time players may find that the touch sensitive buttons may be something that needs to be fixed on the new Xbox 360.
It seems to me that the new Xbox 360 S does not bring much to the table. Some new features and improvements have been made but nothing to warrant a whole new console. It seems that the new Xbox 360 just fixes some problems from older models. The new Xbox 360 also takes away the 120gb optio which I think is only a way for Microsoft to make us buy the more expensive option. While the current systems are going down in price which is good once they are sold there will not be a 120gb option and many people do not need the 250gb option. Unless you have Wi-Fi at home and want to use it for the Xbox the extra cost of the new Xbox 360 does not warrant buying it. I think Microsoft is just trying to extend the life of the Xbox 360 so they will not need to make a new console. I like Nintendo the last DS console they made was a huge improvement on the older model and worth getting, and now they are introducing what is a newer console that is even more different then the latest model. Microsoft needs to start acting like Nintendo.
