1. Age
Young and old can walk for good health and good exercise. Many of the races such as the Crim race have events where young and old can walk. They even have an event where mothers can walk and push their toddlers and/or babies in the strollers. This is definitely a win/win situation. I read that there was a woman that ran a marathon in her 80’s. She never knew that she liked running until in her later years.
2. Anytime
You can choose the time that you want to walk. Some like to walk in the early mornings, while others late in the evening. Some may walk everyday, while others may only walk several days a week. Whatever, you determine what is best for you. Some like to walk outdoors in the fresh air, while others prefer to walk indoors. Some will go out to the malls and walk indoors. Some actually wear a walking pedometer which will tell you how many miles you are actually walking. The joy of walking is that you can become a healthier you and possibly add years to your life. A doctor once said that walking is good for the heart.
3. Weight Loss
There have been those that report great joys and benefits of walking, because of the weight loss that they incurred. Some wear pedometers when walking, so they can actually see the number of miles that they are walking. Another great joy of walking is that you feel better and you give your muscles a workout.
4. Creative Ways to Walk
Have you ever considered different ways to walk?
a. When you go to the grocery store, do you attempt to find the parking place that is close to the entrance door of the store? Why not try parking farther out and walking those extra steps.
b. When in a department store do you always take the elevator? Why not try taking the steps.
c. Have you tried just walking in your neighborhood possibly a couple of blocks?
d. There are those that go to the schools and walk on the race tracks.
e. Have you considered having a treadmill in your home or office. The trend for the future may be to have treadmills in the office. Try walking on the treadmill while you watch your favorite picture on the television. The time will go by very quickly.
f. I have seen those that walk using weights in their hands, so this gives them a great workout.
g. When at church, do you walk up to the altar and give your offering? Or do you give your money to your child or another and request that they put it in the offering for you?
5. Walking Club
Have you considered becoming part of a walking club or maybe starting a walking club? Sometimes we may be more motivated and encouraged when we can walk with others.
Tip:
Remember it is never too late to start walking if you have not been doing so. Why not START NOW? What is holding you back? Don’t make excuses. Just do it.
