The John Birch Society. What does that phrase bring to mind? I know even myself, and I know better, on occasion mention them as a contrast to my positions, positioning the John Birch Society as being to my right. Do readers actually know who John Birch types really are?
Wikipedia describes them as “radical right wing,” yet follows that opening denigration with “political advocacy group that supports anti-communism, limited government and personal freedom.” So, but for the “radical right wing” description I would say Wikipedia got it right. And how does supporting “anti-communism, limited government and personal freedom” equate in any way to radical?
As one who’s read the Constitution and thousand of pages of supporting documentation, how is supporting the principles of the Constitution in any way “radical?” How have we reached such a point where a wiki can even allege such? I know wiki is a user updated forum, but usually they are real close to the factual condition, and calling folks who support the Founding as radical is one of the symptoms of our current mess – leftist political propaganda has supplanted factual history as the common knowledge. No damned wonder there are so many progressives, considering what the schools teach them.
Consider this: Even the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) lists the John Birch Society (JBS) as not dangerous or a hate group, but instead defines them as a “Patriot Group,” and the SPLC defines “Patriot Groups” as “groups define themselves as opposed to the ‘New World Order’ or advocate or adhere to extreme anti-government doctrines.” For the record, isn’t opposing the current government what all the political wrangling of the last 18 months been about? It seems indeed so.
The JBS has all kinds of evil things attributed to it, but how many are true? They have been called racist, but since the SPLC does not describe them as such, and the SPLC is all about eyeballing “hate groups” seems even the watchers do not find the JBS to be anything more than strict construction conservatives. Only in the current day of progressive stranglehold on media and education can any such false moniker be laid upon the JBS.
What hyper political world of lies do we live in when a society formed in 1958 that wants nothing more than strict construction of the Constitution, can be labeled as in some was evil or un-American?
“Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it,” some great person once said. JBS is all and totally about making sure we understand the factual history of the US. As I have written recently, progressivism is all about teaching a revisionist history, for if they stuck to only the facts they wouldn’t have an ice cubes chance in Hell of political supremacy.
I gotta to admit though that progressives seizing control of the schools in the 1970’s and since has served them well. They have managed to paint the adherence to the Constitution and a desire for strict construction as one of some underlying evil. The truth is conservatives are largely strict construction types, hence the moniker “conservative.” We are all about the Founding and the Founder’s intent. Somehow with control of the education system progressives have succeeded in morphing that as evil, when the truth is for the first 100 plus years of this nation we were ALL strict construction types largely.
Is it lost on readers that during the time the US was undoubtedly a “strict construction nation” we went from colonial upstart to numero uno on the world stage? Our rise is directly correlated to the period of time when the US and most all of her citizens’ were favoring a strict adherence to the Constitution. Bur since Wilson and the rise of progressivism we drift from original intent and our troubles magnify. History is clear in this correlation. They US grew in stature until the Wilson-FDR-LBJ progressivism finally took hold and became firmly entrenched. Our decline oddly coincides with that time axis.
If ever anything was needed for this nation to recover its greatness it is an adherence to the principles of the Constitution that is most needed. Progressiveism had been largely in play since the late 1960’s. LBJ was one ya know! And since that time our nation has drifted a rather long way down the path to the point of having lost ourselves in the ideological wilderness.
The John Birch Society is nothing if not an organization that demands we live as the Framer’s intended and to devote our actions to a strict adherence to the Constitution. How can that be bad, again I ask? It is only with the rise of progressive media and control of the school systems that any such nonsense can find its way into the ether. The talking points of progressives as to the factual nature and history of this nation are to truth what jumping off the Empire State Building without a parachute is to a long life. The two are not compatible, at least in the world of the facts and the truth.
The John Birch Society is not a radical organization, except to a progressive, for to hear them tell it anyone advocating living by the tenets of the Founding is a hater. The truth is exceptionally distant from the leftist talking points.
I wonder, do others get red ears due to embarrassment for buying into the simpleton’s chatter of progressivism? Progressivism, like Barack Obama, is nothing more than platitudes and populism. It’s long on self righteous anger and denigration and woefully short on workable solutions. It’s like letting the malcontent run the company. Is it considered sound and business savvy to take the loudest voice of discontent and hand them the keys to the kingdom? That is EXACTLY what letting progressives run this nation is identical to.
They, in an effort to make themselves look desirable, must rewrite the factual history of our Founding and the economic history and facts in order to make their desires seem palpable. The truth is, when history and the Constitution are adhered to it is clear progressives use an uneducated or purposefully “falsely” educated populace, populist rhetoric and simpleton’s platitudes to sway an entire nation that anyone who’s a strict constructionist is an idiot and a damned evil and bigoted one too boot.
The John Birch Society are not insane reactionaries. They are strict constructionists and I point to the Southern Poverty Law Center as the INDEPENDENT and PROGRESSIVE truth, for the SPLC are progressives all the way and even they admit the JBS is not a hate group, but they do misleadingly allude that the JBS are “right wing radicals.” Again, how can adhering to the Founding and the Constitution be “radical” anything? I dare one to prove the talking points. Come on . . . let’s see it.
