Kingdom Hearts, is a partnership between Disney and Final Fantasy creators, Square-Enix. It is the only place you will see Squall and Donald side-by-side. And the fans can’t get enough.
The last major home console game released was Kingdom Hearts 2 in 2006. While Re:Chain of Memories and 358/2 Days (Three-fifty-eight over two days) have also been released, they are more side stories to the main events of the “number-titled” games. At E3 this year, four more titles were announced.
Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep (BBS)
Coming on September 7, 2010, BBS is considered a “number-worth” addition to the franchise despite the fact that it will be released on the Play Station Portable (PSP). Taking place ten years before the events of the original Kingdom Hearts, three new characters are introduced, each with their own story line and playability. Terra, Ventus, and Aqua will face Master Xehanort, a villain that Hearts fans will remember from other games in the series. The trio will battle along side Stitch (Lilo and Stich), Cinderella (Cinderella), and Zach (Final Fantasy VII).
Kingdom Hearts Re:Coded
Originally released for cell phones in Japan, Re:Coded will be released in Fall 2010. While there is not a North American release date as of yet, it is confirmed that North America will see Re:Coded on the Nintendo DS before next year’s E3. Fans will play a digital Sora who must battle bugs through the events in Jiminy Cricket’s Journal. King Mickey will also play an important role in this game, a character we have not seen much of yet. Expect appearances from a lot of familiar characters from Kingdom Hearts and Chain of Memories as this is partially a retelling of Sora’s past.
Kingdom Hearts 3D
After the announcement of the Nintendo 3DS, Square-Enix confirmed Kingdom Hearts 3D for the 3DS. While the announcement came at this year’s E3, only a private demo and three photos were released. More announcements may come throughout the next year, but we won’t see much of this title until next year’s E3. While Sora and Riku – both playable characters – are shown in their KH1 gear, it is not a remake of the original Kingdom Hearts.
Another Unannounced Title?
In an interview in Famitsu with Nomura, the producer of the Kingdom Hearts series, he states, ” A while ago I mentioned that there were ‘two titles’ in conception, and it might look like those two titles were put on display at E3 this year. However, that has actually increased by one title with this (KH3D).” Meaning, the two titles announced this year were Re:Coded and Kingdom Hearts 3D. But since KH3D was not one of the titles he included in his count, there is one to be announced soon. Look forward to that, fans!
Will we soon see a Kingdom Hearts game on the Play Station 3 like fans have been waiting for?
