Last week, I visited the Fallsview Casino in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is about 32 miles from Buffalo, New York and provides a beautiful scenic ride along the Niagara River and over the Peace Bridge which crosses into Canada from Buffalo.
Like many other casinos, the Fallsview sends its regular visitors free passes to their exquisite buffet which I frequently use. The dining room overlooks the Falls which adds to the pleasant surroundings. I can truthfully say that the buffet is outstanding, offering a variety of foods, including Chinese, Italian and Mexican. Without the pass, the meal costs $20. However, as you play the slot machines, you are able to build up points which give you credit toward your meal – in some cases, you may have enough points for the entire meal.
In addition, frequent players are given a free night in one of the Casino’s hotel rooms which are well appointed and spacious. I have taken advantage of this offer on occasion and have been very pleased at the cleanliness as well as the courtesy of the staff. If you wish to stay an hour or two later than the checkout time of 11 a.m., you will be accommodated.
There are several shops in the complex which also cater to visitors. In fact, you can use your casino points towards your purchases in any of the shops. The current exchange rate for an American dollar is $1.02 in Canadian money, so there is a slight advantage if you are using your American dollar.
Well-known entertainers perform at the Casino on a regular basis. Recent acts have included Kevin Costner, Reba McEntire, Ringo Starr, Lionel Richie, Diana Ross and Dolly Parton. Once again, frequent visitors often receive free passes to the show.
A short walk from the Casino will bring you to a close look at the Falls. You should take this in while you are there. You will encounter persons from all over the world who come to see the Falls – those on the Canadian side as well as the American Falls. The Canadians are exceptional in the cleanliness and beauty of their landscaping. On many nights, colored lights on the Falls offer a breathtaking view which you don’t want to miss.
Playing the slots is not for everyone. However, it seems that senior citizens in particular are fascinated by this hobby. We are the first generation to take advantage of social security and pension checks and are able to use these discretionary funds for our own entertainment. I am happy to say that on this last visit to the Fallsview Casino, I hit a jackpot worth $1,739. It was a pleasant surprise because it doesn’t happen very often.
If you like to visit Casinos and you are ever in the neighborhood, try the Fallsview. You will be highly impressed.
