The Duggar Family and Their Nineteen Children

by itchy fish

The Duggar family is very interesting. I never heard of them until I saw a story about them having their nineteenth baby. The baby just got home from the hospital (after being there for months) because she was born too early. The Duggar’s family newest baby is named Josie Brooklyn. The Duggar family has nineteen children and all of their names begin with the letter J. The eldest is twenty -two and Josie (the youngest) is six months old.

I wondered why (in the world) a family would have so many children in today’s society. We are talking nineteen mouths to feed. Not to mention all the noise and distractions there must be to a house this full of children. The reason is a new movement called “Quiverfull”.

“Quiverfull is a movement among conservative evangelical Christian couples chiefly in the United States, but with some adherents in Canada,Australia, New Zealand, England and elsewhere.[2] It promotes procreation, and sees children as a blessing from Godeschewing all forms of birth control, including natural family planning and sterilization. Adherents are known as “quiver full”, “full quiver”, “quiverfull-minded”, or simply “QF” Christians. Some refer to the Quiverfull position as Providentialism,[7] while other sources have referred to it as a manifestation of natalism. Currently several thousand Christians worldwide identify with this movement. It began to receive significant attention in the U.S. national press in 2004.”

I see there is a method to the madness of the Duggar family. They believe in having a bunch of Christian children. They bring up Christian children and fill the world with Christian children. This is not a bad idea, considering what the world is becoming. It does however, have its problems. The last baby being an emergency C-section and giving birth to a six month old little girl could be a problem. Mrs. Duggar is getting old and having babies is becoming more dangerous to both her and the children she bears.

The Duggar is a Christian family. They home school their children. They live debt free because of a Jim Sammons “financial freedom seminar”. They have beliefs that are a little odd in our society. The Duggar’s do not watch much television. On the other hand, they have been on a bunch of TLC documentaries themselves. The Duggar’s teach their children not to date. They believe in courting. This is where the boy (man) asks father of the girl (woman) to become engaged to her. The parents supervise everything. This is sort like a modern Amish type lifestyle the Duggar’s are teaching their children.

Many people think the Duggar’s are odd. Some people actually think they are crazy. I do not believe they are crazy. They are trying to serve God and they are trying to teach their children to serve God. They are different, but if they serve God, I have no problem with their lifestyle. I actually applaud their way of life. Another interesting fact is Jim Bob was actually served in the Arkansas House of Representatives for four years. I am sure he voted against abortion.

I will follow the Duggar family from a distance. I am curious about what will happen with them. I hope they continue to serve the Lord. As a Christian, it is nice to hear something good about Christianity. They do not disgust me like they do so many other people. They are doing nothing wrong. They are serving God. They have more children than I can handle, but they are serving God. God Bless the Duggar family.
