There are different types of clocks for bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchens, living rooms, businesses, schools, and offices whether a home office or an office at a place of business. If you went to school before the rolling digital clocks, you may remember the large brown round clocks in class rooms and hallways of school.
The Different Types of Clocks That Are Available
I have chose a few different types of clocks to talk about below. There are numerous other types of clocks available that aren’t included below. Those types of may come to life in another article. These are the most common types of clocks people may recognize. I have two of the different types of clocks listed below.
Grandfather clocks at one time were in the homes of the upper class. On occasion, they could have been found in certain offices. Over time, grandfather clocks moved into middle class homes because they were inherited from family members or other people someone has known in their life. Grandfather clocks are still one of the more expensive ones to own because of the detailing and mechanisms in the clock.
The most common type of pendulum clocks are the ones that hang on the wall. The pendulum swings back and forth while the clock ticks away.
If you have watched any movies or television shows, you will occasionally catch a clock on the mantle of the fireplace. There are people who still have them in their homes on their fireplace mantles. I have a mantle clock even though I don’t have a fireplace or mantle in this home we live in now. I had bought the mantle clock several years ago when we were renting a house with a gas fireplace with a mantle.
Carriage clocks are a rectangular clock that was used in travel in the 19th century. Carriage clocks are often used as a decorative item in book cases or on the mantel these days.
In the past, neon clocks were most often seen in dimly lit bars. As time moved on, neon clocks made their way into restaurants and soda shops. When time moved on even further, the neon clocks have made their way into homes and other businesses.
I mentioned earlier I had two of the clocks on this list. There is a picture of a driftwood clock my husband had when we were married. It has been hanging in our home for more than 20 years. While it’s a different style of clock, I am ready for this one to find a new home. There are other styles of wooden clocks available. Grandfather clocks, some mantel clocks, and wall clocks are just a few that contain a wooden base.
I mentioned the new rolling clocks that are found in schools and colleges earlier, not only can these clocks be found in schools they can be found at banks and other businesses. Other types of digital clocks can be found on a cell phone, computer, and many alarm clocks in today’s society.
Desk clocks are smaller versions of clocks that fit in a small area on your desk. With the advancement of computers and cell phones, desk clocks are rarely used these days. On occasion, you can find them on someone’s desk who prefers to have one separate from their computer and cell phone.
Cuckoo clocks are the most popular types of musical clocks. I have seen musical clocks that had a Swiss man and woman dancing around at the top of the hour. There are other types of musical clocks available.
Atomic clocks are the types of clocks that are the most precise time keeping devise available. Atomic clocks can be bought in various shapes and sizes.
Alarm clocks have changed over the years in makes and models. At one time the most popular alarm clock was the one that wound up with the two bells on top. These types of alarm clocks can still be found today. The wind up alarm clock has changed in style over the years. These still can be bought at many retail stores. The alarm clock has moved into the flip number electrical alarm clocks to the digital alarm clocks many of us have today.
Before the time of the mechanical clocks, sun dials were used in many ancient cultures. You can find sun dials for gardens in resin, plastic, and cast iron. Most of the time sun dials can only be found during the spring and summer. However, specialty clock stores may have them in stock year round.
