The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9 turned out to be one of the most memorable yet, as Tom Dubois finally decides to face his fear of being raped in prison. So when he makes ‘A Date with the Booty Warrior’, does he emerge victorious? Here’s a look at what went down in The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9:
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: To Catch a Predator (A Different Kind of Predator)
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9 starts out with what looks like your average ‘To Catch a Predator’ spoof. However, the man about to be ambushed by Chris Hansen and a camera crew has a plan that doesn’t involve anyone underage; he’s after Chris Hansen. He informs Chris Hansen that he can do it the easy way or the hard way, telling Chris Hansen that he’s the Booty Warrior.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: Gay Rights Warrior
Cut from that disturbing scene to a look at Tom Dubois, an upstanding citizen and gay rights activist who watches gay movies without turning away or even groaning. But while Tom has no problem with consenting adults of the same sex being together, his greatest fear is getting raped in prison. Tom has been trying to deal with his phobia by taking part in group therapy, which involves reciting the mantra, “My booty is mine; it belongs to me; you cannot take my boo-oo-ty”. While sharing a shower with other men, he sometimes starts to hallucinate, picturing them as prisoners out to get him, so it’s obvious the guy needs help.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: Scared Stiff
While Tom is trying to deal with his troubles, Huey and Riley are in trouble themselves, given the option of getting expelled or taking part in the Scared Stiff program and visiting a prison (of course, Riley is thrilled with either option). The two end up in the Scared Stiff program, and Tom decides to tag along as a chaperone in order to conquer his own fear and try to avoid being scared stiff by the experience. He tells his wife he wants to become a defense attorney but can’t visit his clients if he’s too scared to walk into the prison. Plus, if he becomes a defense attorney, he can save others from being sent to prison and brutally raped.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: Uncle Ruckus Part of the Ruckus
Of course Uncle Ruckus has yet another job in this episode, picking up the kids in the Scared Stiff program and telling them he’s a volunteer correctional officer. He tells the white kids in the group it will just be like a trip to the zoo, while informing Riley and Huey it will be like a trip to the future for them. Riley starts fashioning a shank from a toothbrush before Tom spots him with the sharp object, taking it and pocketing it himself after feeling a flash of fear at the thought that he’s about to walk into a prison.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Enter the Booty Warrior
And so the kids and Tom are introduced to a group of prisoners, one of which informs the bunch that he didn’t do much to end up there; he just killed somebody. He starts talking to the kids about man’s oppressive system, telling them that they don’t know what he’s talking about. Huey informs him that he knows exactly what he’s talking about, delivering an eloquent speech about how prisons are an easy solution to social problems and a civil rights violation, to which the prisoner responds, “You said what I’m trying to say, only smarter!” The prisoners then start telling the kids that the worst part of prison, just as Tom fears, is being raped. One prisoner informs Tom that he’s the type of guy that definitely doesn’t want to end up in prison, and proceeds to describe why prisoners save their peanut butter and jelly (you don’t want to know). He demands that Tom take off his shoes, pants, and jacket, which a terrified Tom proceeds to do, but the shank falls out of his pocket and catches the eye of the Booty Warrior (I guess assaulting Chris Hansen landed him in the slammer), who pockets it. After the other prisoner informs the scared stiff kids that Tom wouldn’t stand a chance in prison by complying with his demands like he did, the Booty Warrior steps in and grabs Tom, pulling the shank and delivering the same speech he gave Chris Hansen. However, a terrified Tom breaks free and bolts out the door.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: Prison’s a Riot
And so it seems that a prison riot has broken out, as Tom runs down a corridor to a phone and calls 9-1-1, where a joking operator asks, “Sir, have they raped you yet?” He then calls his wife in hysterics before bolting again.
Back in the room where the prisoners are left with the kids, the Booty Warrior wants to know, “Who let that booty get away”? To him booty is more important that escaping, so he leaves to hunt Tom down.
Ruckus tells the remaining prisoners just to not hurt the white kids in group; they can do what they want to Huey and Riley. He starts mouthing off about Barack Obama, but shuts up when one of the prisoners informs him that he’s not too fat and ugly to get raped. Huey tells the prisoners that they should make reasonable demands in exchange for their hostages, organizing the prisoners into a Chief Executive Riot Committee complete with voting and passing motions. He tells the prisoners to create a list of demands, but all they come up with is a list of women of all different nationalities, Viagra, and People Magazine. Huey suggests they ask for something like the end of outsourcing of prison labor to other countries. While they’re hashing things out, Uncle Ruckus and the other kids sneak out and run into Tom, who decides he has to go back for Riley and Huey. Uncle Ruckus warns him to be careful; he’s got a peanut allergy.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: The Booty Battle
Of course poor Tom walks straight through the steamy prison shower, where he is assaulted with bars of soap and warned not to drop them. He starts repeating his mantra over and over again as he’s confronted by the Booty Warrior, and the two do battle. Luckily, as the Booty Warrior is walking towards him, he slips on a bar of soap and hits his head on the floor. A victorious Tom then slams a bar of soap into his face.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: Government & Imprisonment
Meanwhile, the prisoners left with Huey and Riley are arguing over who was in charge of watching the hostages. They ultimately vote to end the riot, and one prisoner breaks down and tells Huey that all he does every day is think about how things could have been different for him; he doesn’t want prison raping to be the biggest part of the rest of his life. Tom busts in at this point to “rescue” Huey and Riley, and it’s obvious from the ending that Riley should have been the one that heard the prisoner’s last words; he’s not afraid of the place at all, instead berating Tom for leaving them behind and basically calling the prisoners sissies for doing nothing but voting during the riot. However, it seems that Tom has finally truly gotten over his fear of prison rape.
The Boondocks Season 3 Episode 9: Tom Dubois: The Lesson
So what did we learn from ‘A Date with the Booty Warrior’? How about that a show like this is the best way to get kids scared stiff about going to prison? I guess we also learned that sometimes the only way to get over your fears is to face them head-on, and that if you gave prisoners just one thing in jail (“that thing”), they would be in paradise. Also, I don’t think Chris Hansen should ever do another episode of ‘To Catch a Predator’.
