Comedians like Demetri Martin, Jim Gaffigan, Jeff Dunham and Dane Cook are very popular. And though they’re also very funny (except Dane Cook, sorry to say), there are many out there who are just as good or even a lot better, and they definitely deserve recognition too. Here are some great comedians you should check out if you’ve never heard of them before.
1. Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer could possibly be my favorite comedian ever right now. She has this very sweet innocence about her until she says one of the most offensive things you’ve ever heard, and it’s kind of amazing. She has amazing delivery and her jokes are almost all spot on. Check her out!
2. Eugene Mirman
Eugene Mirman is a very dorky looking guy for the most part, but his stand-up routine is nothing short of amazing. He has this hilariously sarcastic tone that I don’t see in many comedians these days, and his delivery is absolutely great. Definitely some quotable lines with this guy.
3. Myq Kaplan
It’s pronounced “Mike” and no, I’m not quite sure why he spells his name that way. He’s also kind of a dorky-sounding guy, but he completely embraces that and not only makes fantastic jokes about it, but has this sort of quick, strike-by-strike way of telling some jokes that you will just want to applaud him for not even cracking a smile. He is definitely one of the best out there and deserves a look.
4. Lisa Lampanelli
Lisa Lampanelli is one of the most offensive people I’ve ever seen. Be warned: If you are easily offended, or have ever been offended by anything anybody has ever said, you might not like her. However, if you can take lots of ethnic and racial jokes and slurs, she’s absolutely hysterical, and in a way kind of melts racial barriers by how freely she lets some of the most offensive words out there rip. You’ll either love her or hate her, but I think she’s actual very clever and fiesty, and I admire the way she doesn’t seem to prepare for her act as much as just prepare to involve the audience and take it from there. Very funny comedian, indeed!
5. Jo Koy
The last guy I’m going to recommend is not nearly as funny as the previous four, but he still certainly has his moments, especially when he tries to do impressions of people (they are absolutely amazing). His jokes are mostly hits, but some are chuckles rather than huge belly laughs.
Look these comedians up if you’ve never heard of them before, because you’re in for a treat if you do!
