The best spot to fish at in Northport, New York is Northport Harbor. Northport is a beautiful town. If you drive deep enough into the town you’ll end up near water. The water you are seeing is the harbor.
Directions to get to the harbor are fairly easy. If you are coming from the West, take the Long Island Expressway East to Exit 51, which is Deer Park Avenue North. Bare to the right past the firehouse, once you reach Jericho Turnpike. Next, take a right on Jericho heading East and immediately get into the left hand turning lane. You will then travel approximately 300 to 400 feet on Jericho Turnpike, and make the next left onto Elwood Road heading North. Then, take Elwood all the way to the end until you reach 25A, where you will see a large storage place on your right, and make a left onto Fort Salonga Road.
If you are coming from the East and need to get to this spot, all you need to do is take 495 West to Sunken Meadow/Sagtikos Parkway North to Exit 53N. Then, take the Sunken Meadow Parkway to the end until you reach 25A West. Then you’ll need to take 25A West and travel past Fort Salonga into Northport. You will see Stop and Shop grocery store on your left. Go past Stop and Shop on 25A and travel down the hill.
It doesn’t cost anything to fish at this spot, unless you are taking a boat. Northport Charters is the perfect boating company to use if you would like to fish on Long Island Sound. They can accommodate small groups for clients, birthdays, sunset cruises, and family outings. They aren’t too expensive for the fishing trip of your dreams. For a half person charter boat, for half of a day, it will only cost you $350. The boat departs from Northport Harbor. You will find the exact location with the directions that I have provided for you. You will need a fishing license whether you chose to fish from the boat or on the harbor, unless you are under 16 years of age.
I recommend packing sandwiches, and putting them in a small cooler for your fishing trip. You can also buy live bait from nearby bait and tackle stores, and keep them fresh inside of your cooler. Just remember to buy your fishing poles elsewhere. Do not buy them at the supply stores close to the harbor. They are very costly at these stores. However, these stores are perfect to just pick up some fake worms to add to your live bait. You should also pick up something brightly colored. This will get the fish’s attention. Along with live bait, this is your best bet for catching any kind of fish.
Enjoy Northport Harbor. This place is beautiful. You can watch large, fancy fishing boats travel out to Long Island Sound as a bright gorgeous sunset takes place. Have the fishing trip of your most vivid dreams.
