Since the Harry Potter series first came out in movie theaters, beginning with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in November, 2001, audiences around the world have embraced Harry Potter and his adventures. Now, Harry’s story draws to a close with the release of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part I on November 19, 2010. In the last of the seven book series, we will watch Harry continue his search for Lord Voldemort’s horcruxes so that Harry can defeat Voldemort once and for all.
As an avid Harry Potter fan, here is a list of ten things I am looking forward to while watching Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. *CAUTION* Spoiler Alert! I will be discussing things that will happen in the movie if they are shown as written.
1. Ron and Hermoine Romance
We’ve been watching the relationship grow between Ron and Hermione since the first book, but it wasn’t until Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, when we started to see Hermione’s jealous side, that we suspected how much more there could be to the relationship. Finally we’ll begin to see the depth of feeling and the love they have for each other.
2. The Great Gringott Escape
Upon discovering that one of Voldemort’s horcruxes is hidden away in the Lestrange Family vault, Harry, Ron, Hermoine, and goblin Griphook form an elaborate plan to break into Gringott’s bank. Their plan goes awry when a magical waterfall reveals their enchantments. With the Gringott goblins on the way, Harry and his friends face enchanted, burning gold to find Helga Hufflepuff’s cup, then escape on the dragon that was guarding the vault. Fires, dragons, and explosions should make this an edge-of-your-seat escape scene.
3. Severus Snape is Good
For six books, all signs pointed towards Severus Snape being a villian. These suspicions seemed confirmed when Snape killed Dumbledore at the ends of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. However, in Snape’s final moments, we see that there was much more to Severus Snape that met the eye. He was in love with Harry’s mother, Lily, and he constantly put his life on the line to honor her memory. I can only imagine how Snape’s true actions will cause the audience to face their own false judgements of Snape.
4. Neville Longbottom Kills Nagini
Neville has been a minor character in the Harry Potter series, but we learn that he could in fact have been “the Chosen One.” A far cry from the nervous boy who received a remembral from his grandmother in the first book, Neville has led the student’s revolt at Hogwarts and shows how heroic he can be when he kills Nagini, Voldemort’s snake.
5. Harry, Hermoine, and Ron Travel
Always staying on the move, the trio apparate throughout England’s country-side to stay out of harm’s reach as they search for the Horcruxes. This will be a great opportunity to see how beautiful England can be in the country and through the seasons.
6. Ron Destroy’s The Locket
We’ve seen Ron battle jealousy and insecurities throughout the books. His bravery and confidence gets put to the test as he faces his fear that Hermoine in fact loves Harry. He needs to conquer his fears in order to destroy the locket, one of Voldemort’s Horcruxes.
7. Is Harry “the Chosen One”?
When Harry ventures into the Dark Forest to face Voldemort, he expects to die. He faces Voldemort with his wand still tucked into his pocket, and as Voldemort screams “Avada Kedavra”, we’re left wondering if Harry is alive or dead.
8. Harry is Alive!
The previous question is answered when Harry and Dumbledore meet at a sort of spiritual King’s Cross station.
Harry asks, “Then…I’m dead too?” and Dumbledore replies, “…On the whole, dear boy, I think not.” The King’sCross statin movie scenes could be breath-taking and ethereal. It will also be interesting to see how the creature under the seats looks.
9. The Final Battle
This is the moment that we’ve all been waiting for, through seven books and thousands of pages, Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort face each other in a final battle. However it’s not just skill that determines the winner. The Elder Wand, the most powerful wand in the magical world, will choose the winner when it chooses its true owner. I expect the wand fight to be truly amazing.
10. What Happens Next?
Author J.K. Rowling shared a sliver of Harry’s future in the book, showing that Harry and Ginny got married and had children. In the final pages, we see Harry sending his children off to Hogwart’s along with Ron and Hermione’s children. I look forward to seeing how the older Harry and his children are shown.
