The producers of ABC’s The Bachelor and The Bachelorette love a good scandal. And in each of the past few seasons, they’ve had plenty. Now, with Season 6 of The Bachelorette still filming, it looks like Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky’s season will feature a scandal as well- but this time it will be more than “he said/she said”.
According to reality TV blogger Reality Steve, Season 6 of The Bachelorette will feature a common scandal theme- one of the bachelors pursing Ali allegedly has a girlfriend back home. But the twist this time? The hometown girlfriend supposedly calls Ali on the phone and it’s captured on camera. It’s not yet known how far into the season the phone call will take place, or if the two-timing guy is a guy that Ali has “fallen” for. Still, it should make for some juicy fireworks when Ali finds out the news direct from the horses mouth.
Fans of the show will recall in Season 5, when Bachelorette Jillian Harris dealt with the rumors that one of her suitors, Wes Hayden, had a girlfriend back home and was only doing the show to help his country music career (Hayden has denied that he had a girlfriend while he was on the show). But since it was never proven that Wes had a girlfriend, it was all hearsay among the other bachelors vying for Jillian’s heart. Jillian dealt with another blow when rumors circulated that her final pick- Ed Swiderski- also had a gal at home. But since Ed and Jillian are still together and engaged, that rumor lost its steam as well.
Other Bachelor scandals include Season 13 Bachelor Jason Mesnick’s on-air breakup with his final pick, Melissa Rycroft, immediately followed by him asking his runner up, Molly Malaney, for a second chance.
And on The Bachelor Season 14, who can forget Rozlyn Papa’s supposed “inappropriate relationship” with a show producer. She was promptly kicked off the show, all the while denying that she and the producer in question had anything more than a friendship.
Buts since most of these scandals were behind the scenes (with the exception of the Jason-Melissa-Molly switcheroo), they didn’t pack all that much punch. There wasn’t any film footage that showed Papa and the shows producer together, and Wes Hayden’s alleged girlfriend never came out of the woodwork.
But Ali Fedotowsky receiving a direct phone call from real life girlfriend? Now that sounds like a scandal!
One other tidbit? Ali must conquer her fear of flying at some point, because according to Reality Steve she will be jetting all over the world this season in an “Around the World” theme. Quitting her job at Facebook and jet setting? Sounds like Ali has really stepped out of her comfort zone!
Season 6 of The Bachelorette will premiere on May 24, 2010 on ABC.
