Monday night on the season 6 finale of ABC’s The Bachelorette, it was time for Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky to take her final two guys- Chris Lambton and Roberto Martinez – to meet her parents before deciding which guy was worthy of getting her final rose- and heart. The location? Bora Bora! But did Ali find love in Tahiti or did she go home a single woman? Who did Ali pick on the finale of The Bachelorette?
Roberto Meets the Parents
First up, the dashing Roberto meets Ali’s parents, sister Raya and brother Michael. Mom Beth seems taken by Roberto and she dubs him “the tall, dark handsome man of Ali’s dreams”. She also gushes to Roberto that he’s “already doing it” when he asks what he can do to make her daughter happy. Mom even gets emotional, saying she can’t contain her joy and then says to Roberto, “I believe your heart is pure.” In Spanish, no less. I think Mom has the hots for Roberto! He tells her “Gracious.”
But it’s dad’s opinion that really counts. Roberto tells Ali’s dad that he loves her and he asks for his blessing if he proposes to her. Dad says, “I don’t have a problem with that.”
Later Roberto pulls his best Ricky Ricardo moves and rumbas with Mrs. Fedotowsky. Or maybe it’s salsa dancing. Whatever.
Ali’s Family Meets Chris
Chris lets it be known early on that he’s ready to ask for Ali’s hand in marriage. Ali’s family cheers that Chris is from their home state of Massachusetts. But at lunch, the conversation takes an awkward and sad turn when Ali’s mom asks Chris to talk about his mother. He still seems to be a broken man over his mom’s death.
Later, Ali’s dad asks Chris if he loves Ali. After a long winded answer (“I love her eyes”), Chris says he falls in love with her every time he sees her. Which is about 5 times total, based on this show. Still, Chris asks for Dad’s blessing and guess what? Mr. Fedotowsky says, “I would have no problem with that.” Gee, he says that a lot!
Later, the family weighs in on both guys. Dad is adamantly on Team Roberto. Raya and Michael are on Team Chris. Mom kinda wavers, but seems to lean towards Chris.
Roberto’s Final Date With Ali
Roberto meets up with Ali for a final date before judgment day. They go jet skiing and swimming (with stingrays!) before settling in for a picnic on the beach. When it starts to rain, the two share a passionate romp and romantic kisses in the rain. ABC clearly controls the weather now!
Later it’s a romantic night time rendezvous in Roberto’s room. Plug Alert: It’s at the Hilton Bora Bora.
Ali tells him for the millionth time how perfect he is. He gives her a present- a picture of the two of them from their date at the heart-shaped lagoon, with a mushy sentiment he wrote (which of course included some sexy Spanish words). Roberto- King of the smooth moves- then strategically tells Ali he loves her. He commands her to stay overnight. And she does indeed stay, even though she has a date with Chris the next day. Yeah, she’s fallen hard. And soon, in a shocking twist, Ali breaks the rules.
Chris’s Final date With Ali….Or Not
Poor Chris. He’s all ready for his big date with Ali. But then she shows up looking like Frank Neuschaefer a few weeks ago. Really dire and serious. The she nervously starts spewing out her words a mile a minute. Ali attempts to let Chris down easy, but she tells him she’s in love with someone else. “I have to let you go here” she tells him.
So before all the haters start sending Ali death threats, let’s think this through. She wanted to spare this super nice guy the humiliation of the final rose charade. She didn’t want to cause his fragile heart any more heartache. Seems sensible to me.
But Chris is pretty torn up about it anyway. He finds consolation later when a beautiful rainbow appears, which he is certain is a message from his mother. Chris says he’s still looking for that perfect life partner. ” I just gotta keep looking, ” he says.
Next Roberto, who is oblivious to the fact that Chris has already been dumped by Ali, is shown meeting with the famous jeweler, Neil Lane. He picks out a diamond for Ali, all the while pondering if proposing to her is the right thing to do. He has to do what’s best for him. Suddenly it seems like the Roberto Show and he’s calling the shots.
Ali’s Final Rose-less Ceremony
With only one guy left. Ali is hedging her bets that she’ll leave Bora Bora an engaged woman. She put all the money on Roberto (guess Daddy knows best) but she isn’t 100% sure how he feels.
After a ride on a boat to meet her (or is it a skip?), Roberto bounds up the steps towards Ali in her gold gown. He’s sweating out his nose as he gives Ali his “I love you” spiel. But then he gets down on one knee and pops out the Neil Lane diamond.
It’s official. Ali is engaged. At least this week.
Next season: Who will be the next Bachelor? I’d say Lambton is a shoe-in if he wants the gig. Stay tuned.
