It was an ending like no other, just like ABC promised.
On Monday night’s season finale of The Bachelorette, Ali Fedotowsky broke the heart of a fan favorite bachelor, Chris Lambton. But she also broke the rules by sparing him the humiliation of a final rose ceremony. Now that Chris Lambton didn’t make the cut as husband material for Ali, it was time to face him on the After the Final Rose special. Oh, and Ali’s fiancé Roberto Martinez was there too.
It was no surprise that Frank Neuschaefer- the guy that dumped Ali in Tahiti because he was still in love with his hometown girlfriend- didn’t show up to the After the Final Rose taping. Why would he? But host Chris Harrison told Ali that Frank was supposed to be there. He backed out at the last minute. Ali seemed bummed because she wanted to clear the air with Frank. No matter. She tells Chris Harrison that she forgives Frank. Oh, what new love can do to a scorned woman!
Somewhere Over the Rainbow
Rejected bachelor Chris Lambton came out looking somber. When Harrison asked him if he was over Ali, he said he’s ready to find his soulmate.
Ali came out she thanked Chris for helping her learn a lot about what she was looking for in someone (yeah, Roberto) and she played up her “friendship” with Chris. Then Chris thanked Ali for letting him go early- before their final date, and for sparing him the final rose ceremony. He said he was sure he would have fallen even harder for her. This guy is just way too nice!
There was a recap of the beautiful rainbow that appeared after Ali said goodbye to Chris in Bora Bora. Apparently, before she died, Chris’ mom told him to look for her in rainbows. The unexpected rainbow that turned up that day in Tahiti (there was no sign of rain) caused quite an emotional frenzy the day this scene was filmed.
Chris wished Ali luck and congratulated her on finding love with Roberto. No bitterness. He seemed genuinely happy for her. Like I said, nice guy!
Next up Roberto came out, looking like a man in love. He and Ali recounted the past two months, holing up in South Carolina, having virtual dates (they’d watch the same movie at the same time, on opposite coasts) and seeing each other every 2 weeks or so. The happy couple talked about a spring or summer, 2011 wedding.
Are Ali and Roberto Still Together?
Even though The Bachelorette finale was filmed months ago, Monday night’s After the Final Rose special was filmed a week ago. Ali and Roberto also made an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night. And they are still very much together.
So much so that Roberto has transferred his insurance office to the San Diego area, where he and Ali have rented an apartment. She’s jobless (hmmm…how far is San Diego from the Dancing With the Stars studios?) but the pair hopes she will find something she loves to do. Or is this elf-described career woman setting the stage to settle down and start making babies? Who knows!
The only question remaining is, will Chris Lambton put his heart on the line again and take a turn as the next Bachelor? Stay tuned!
