ABC’s The Bachelorette Season 6 premiered on Monday night, May 24th and fans of bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky- the pretty blonde who left pilot Jake Pavelka on last seasons’ Bachelor for her job at Facebook – settled in to see who her eligible bachelors were. As usual there was plenty of drama and cocky behavior among the male suitors. But were any of them husband material for Ali?
First up, it was a series of clips that introduced some of Ali’s potential suitors. This included the bookish Frank who professed, “Passion is so much more important than money”. Then there was Craig M., with his John Travolta suit and Patrick Dempsey hair. Mountain Man – aka Kyle- showed his love for stuffed animals-real stuffed animals. And then there was Jonathan the weatherman, who’s at least in a decent TV market (Houston).
Then it was a quick interview with Ali, who told host Chris Harrison that she’s choosing love this time and that she wants children.
Harrison told her the guys that she would be meeting were from “all walks of life”.
And booooy, he wasn’t kidding!
Next it was time for Ali to meet her 25 guys. As the limos pulled up, it was time for the gimmicks to begin.
Jesse, from Peculiar, Missouri asked Ali, “How do you feel about dating a Peculiar man?”
Frank, who proved early on to be somewhat of a tool, popped out of the limo sunroof.
Justin R. came out on crutches-instant sympathy vote!
Mountain man Kyle attempted to reel Ali in with a fake fishing line. Bit it was more likely his bright yellow shirt and pink tie that caught her attention (who dresses him in the morning?).
Next up was Roberto, a sexy Latino who spoke to her in Spanish.
John fake-proposed to Ali with a cubic zirconia ring. Funny stuff!
Another guy made her a paper rose out of a red napkin, while a guy named Derek threw a bunch of dead leave son her. The highlight was likely the dude who did a back flip off of the limo. Oh yes he did.
After she met all 25 guys- some of who were clearly a disappointment- Ali headed in for the meet and greet cocktail party, where Hunter serenaded her with his ukulele. I was starting to wonder of this was a dating show or a talent show. Jason from Denver looked like Lyle Lovett’s brother, while a guy with the nickname of Shooter told Ali just how he got his nickname back in his college days (it ain’t pretty).
But on to the important stuff. The First Impression Rose. Harrison brought it out on a platter where it sat there ominously. Once guy said of the rose, “That’s scary”.
Ali enjoyed some more time with Roberto, who danced a Latin dance with her. She seemed enamored. Kyle gave her a gold fishing hook (who says romance is dead?) and Jesse made her a wood heart. But it was Justin R., who let on about his wrestling altar ego (he works as an entertainment wrestler named Rated R) , that rubbed some of the other guys the wrong way.
Indeed, when Chris Harrison told all of the bachelors to vote for the guy that they each thought was not there for the right reason, the votes for Justin R. were overwhelming.
And while Ali had a brief chat with him to find out what the deal was, she ended up ignoring the guys’ advice and giving Justin a rose anyway.
Soon, as quickly as we met them, 8 of the 25 men were gone when Chris Harrison told Ali it was time for the rose ceremony:
