I admit that I wasn’t sure if I was going to watch The Bachelor Pad, but the promos drew me in. And I’m glad they did, since the show was much better than expected. Yes I know it’s a bit smarmy, and yes I know I should have better things to do with my time, as some people like to say on the message boards. But hey, what better way to while away some down time on a Monday night in front of the TV than to watch a bunch of young beautiful people having the kind of fun that most of us are not having. Let us have our guilty pleasure, okay?
I have to say, on some level, The Bachelor Pad is truly a raw study of the social interactions between men and women and relationships. It was all there last night in living color. The drama, the tears, the lust, the feelings on both sides of the fence. Great stuff. And the ending was just pure sweet justice. Couldn’t get any better than that now, could it?
We realize that a lot of what went on during the show was there only for voyeuristic purposes. Not that there’s anything wrong with doing that. Lots of hot guys were there with their shirts off, and they seemed to be enjoying the view of the girls in bikinis. But having them play Twister was kind of obvious, wasn’t it? I was a little embarrassed for them since it was sort of like a simulated orgy under the guise of just playing a cute little game.
Speaking of embarrassment, Melissa Rycroft was sharing the hosting duties with Chris Harrison and was it me, or did she appear mortified the entire time at being there on the show? Especially at the end when she had to give out the roses. She looked like she wanted to crawl in a hole and disappear. I love Melissa. I just don’t think this was a good venue for her to be in. She’s married now and I heard she’s pregnant too, so she’s so over this kind of frivolity. Maybe that’s why.
And while I’m dishing out my unasked for opinions, let’s talk about a few more things. First, Gia. It was interesting how all the guys turned into bobble heads as soon as Gia walked in the room, wasn’t it? Each and every one of the guys heads started swiveling just to get a glimpse of her. Very funny to watch. But if Gia does have a boyfriend, why is she on the show? It seems unfair that she’s participating in this show where they’re suppose to all be single and struggling with the issue of love or money. But I think I saw Gia kissing someone during the previews, so maybe the boyfriend is history. Let’s face it. If she was in a relationship and she came on this show, then she couldn’t have cared very much for the boyfriend. And if the boyfriend didn’t have a problem with her coming on a show such as this, then he’s a wuss and she should leave him anyway, don’t you think?
I felt sorry for Gwen. She’s a beautiful lady, but obviously older than the rest of the people there. I think she thought there would be more people on the show from some of the earlier seasons, but they were mostly from recent ones.
Did you all notice how within the first five minutes of the show, we saw Tenley mention, yet again, how her ex-husband cheated on her? You’d think after watching herself on TV before, that she would have shut up about that already. She’s definitely an emotional girl. But that being said, I didn’t like what Michelle did to her by cornering her in the bathroom. Michelle had an opportunity to come on this show and prove to everyone that she wasn’t crazy. But that ship has sailed. We now know for certain she’s crazy. And that is why she got voted off by the guys, not because Tenley said she thought she was with Craig. Hey Michelle, nobody likes a bully. Remember that.
Cute couple alert for Jesse Beck and Natalie. How adorable were they? I’ll bet they wished they could have run away from the show and just be by themselves.
And the “turning over a new leaf” award goes to Wes. I didn’t see any of his previous arrogance and I didn’t see one glimpse of his guitar. Good thinking, Wes.
Speaking of bullies, I was surprised, but glad, that there seemed to be no animosity between Dave and Juan. And the same goes for Craig and Jonathan the Weatherman. We don’t need any fist fights. I know some people think they’re cool for ratings, but it just makes me nervous. I like the love drama. It’s much better.
One of the most interesting aspects of the show was the interaction between Elizabeth and Jesse Kovacs. and also Nikki and Juan. In both those situations, the guy was less than sincere with the girl in the past, and both girls were obviously hurt by the relationship. And last night, both Jesse and Juan seemed to be trying to talk their way out of it by insincerely apologizing. Didn’t work, in either case. At the end of the show when Juan was sent packing in the limo ride of shame after being eliminated, he looked flabbergasted, didn’t he? Like he couldn’t believe he was being sent home just because he used and hurt Nikki. Hey Juan. Girls don’t like guys who hurt them. And girls don’t like guys who hurt other girls either. Lesson learned, eh? And losing a quarter of a million dollars was just like rubbing salt in the wound, wasn’t it? Well then maybe you’ll think twice the next time you decide to toy with the feelings of another girl.
What I’m worried about now though is that Jesse is going to see what happened to Juan, and he’ll be scared to death that he’ll be the next to go since he’s in the same boat with Elizabeth that Juan was with Nikki. And I’m worried that he’ll pull out all the stops and try to convince Elizabeth that he still has feelings for her. And as we saw, Elizabeth is so crazy in love with him and not thinking straight, that she’ll fall for his lines. Come on, Elizabeth, don’t fall for it, okay? Let’s see you be strong. Be strong for womankind everywhere! But unfortunately we saw you practically bribing Jesse tonight to be nice to you. Kind of pathetic, so stop it.
As I said, I think this show is a great study of what goes on between men and women. Just because these are all beautiful people, we can clearly see that their feelings and insecurities are just like everybody else’s. There’s a few here who are in this for the money, but most of the girls seem to be wanting love, and most of the guys seem to be wanting the money. Kind of like real life, huh?
