The Melting Pot
6683 Delmar Blvd. (Kingsland Ave.)
University City, MO 63130
So you want more than just an expensive plate with minimal portions but still keep a romantic and fun feel? The Melting Pot is the place to go. Its one of those dimly lit places with a nice candle on the table and the table settings are also more private so you and a loved one can be secluded. This place is mainly all about fondue. Fondue can be fun, delicious, and still very romantic. Choose their cheese fondue as an appetizer, along with a cocktail from their very original list, to start off your meal. You then have a choice between meat, seafood, or vegetable fondues for your main course. Any of those 3 also include your choice of oil or two different kind of broths for your cooking liquid. Finally, finish off your fine meal with the chocolate fondue. Who doesn’t love chocolate? Its the best part of the meal there, in my opinion. All their ingredients are top notch, but you do pay for it. On the little pricey side, but well worth it. It was close to $80 dollars for an appetizer, a few drinks, a main meat dish, and the chocolate dessert. They have multiple locations around the St. Louis area, as well.
Bailey’s Chocolate Bar
1915 Park, In Lafayette Square
St. Louis, MO 63104
Just because this place has ‘Bar’ in its name, doesn’t mean it is just that. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, either. Walk in and suddenly you get a feeling of warmth. The dark wood furniture with red highlights make this place just burst with romanticism. Decide to seat in the front bar area on a high top table or at the bar itself. Too close for your comfort? Well make your way into the back of the restaurant where more seating is, including a really cool closed in patio (in the winter, of course). Every table is lit just perfectly with a little candle and topped with a clean white tablecloth. Wait staff come around to take your order and are very courteous. So as you can see this place is definitely more than just a bar serving drinks. The chocolate martini’s and desserts are the main attraction to this place and they are absolutely decadent. They have a selection of sandwiches, salads, and some main dishes such as steaks. Everything is fairly priced, except for their drinks. Their martini’s can be $8.00 and above, and their beer pints are $4.00 and above. This place is the perfect destination to not only have drinks but eat, as well, so you can essentially save yourself a trip. Be ready to spend more than a couple of hours at this fine establishment.
Monarch Restaurant & Wine Bar
This place aspires to be one the best restaurants in St Louis, but among that, is one of the most romantic. French chefs and extensive wine list are just a couple of reasons alone to dine here at this establishment. The main dining room and the materials they use on the roof and walls makes the place very inviting, warm, and most of all, comfortable. If you don’t care to be in the main mix of the things, they also have a bistro & wine bar thats a bit more casual and secluded. You can indulge with their Haute cuisine including their Roast Beef Tenderloin which is my personal favorite and is to die for. The grilled yellow fin tuna dish is a popular one amongst some friends of mine, as well. For the level of service and quality of food, you are definitely going to pay for it here, though. None of the main dishes are below $25 dollars. However, their dishes and service do make it worth the price.
