Chung’s Chinese Restaurant in Waterford is by far one of the best Chinese restaurants in the Detroit Metro Area. Chung’s features a very special eggroll that is deep fried. Now before you scream “transfat”, the oil used by Chung’s is non-transfat and the taste is very special. Chung’s Chinese restaurant features fresh ingredients and personal involvement from the chef. If you don’t like something you have ordered, they will make it right. I love the dishes that feature chicken and hot spices. Their spices are very fresh and you can taste the crispness of the ginger, curry or cumin. I love that the staff is personable and they remember customers. They also serve rolls. Visiting Chung’s on a regular basis is more like visiting your grandmother’s than a Chinese restaurant. If someone had told me that a Chinese restaurant could make your feel so at home, I’d have doubted it. But Chung’s changed the way I perceived Chinese food. The atmosphere is updated and fresh but the people are what you will remember most. Chung’s is located off M-59 highway.
Next is the Szechuan Canton Restaurant off of Ford Rd in Canton, MI. This restaurant has a green roof and is very understated. The décor is exceptionally plain, but the food will stop you in your tracks. The food is very tasty. I had the Peking duck and frankly I haven’t had duck that good in 10 years. This restaurant is probably one of the best for consistency of any Chinese restaurant I’ve ever visited. Their spicy dishes are excellent. I would recommend curry dishes, seafood dishes and rice dishes. This restaurant is one of the best Chinese/Oriental restaurants in the metropolitan area. While Szechuan Canton sells both traditional Chinese as well as Szechuan dishes, it excels in both areas and I am a devoted customer. I’d strongly recommend the succulent duck for a holiday meal. You won’t be disappointed.
My last recommendation is a Benihana restaurant. I know this seems odd, but this particular Benihana does an excellent job of getting you to the table and servicing your needs. This is a Benihana located in Troy, Michigan. This particular location is on Big Beaver Road, and the food is prepared quickly right in front of you. Unlike some other locations, the chefs here are real pros. I was very impressed by the wait staff and the hostesses during seating. The atmosphere was exceptionally professional. This restaurant’s atmosphere is just like any other Benihana, but the quality of the workers is very high. If you love Japanese food, you should really enjoy this place. I highly recommend it.
