One of the best Coney Island restaurants in the Detroit Metro Area (DMA) is L. George’s Restaurant in Canton, Michigan. L. George’s Restaurant is located on Michigan Avenue, about 1.5 miles from Interstate 275. This restaurant is understated but it serves the best Greek salad you could ever eat. You can regularly find long lines of people waiting to be seated. This restaurant often doesn’t have space to wait inside the restaurant and the line extends out the door. Sometimes the parking lot fills up and customers park along the street. The atmosphere is simple, clean and efficient. Most restaurants would provide more décor and other amenities but Michiganders come to a Coney Island restaurant simply to eat. This restaurant is clean and simple. The best dishes are the Greek salad and Gyro Salad. Virtually all of their breakfast foods are phenomenal. You basically can’t go wrong with any of their breakfast foods, I highly recommend their bacon, usually it is served to crisp perfection.
Another great Coney Island is Little Daddy’s Restaurant on Northwestern Highway in Southfield, Michigan. This restaurant has the best flaming cheese of any Coney Island restaurant in the DMA. Little Daddy’s has a great salad and their menu has an eclectic mix of American and Greek food. You really should check out Little Daddy’s if you are in Southfield some time. This restaurant is patronized by professionals a lot and the atmosphere is very “yuppish”. This is just a warning if you don’t like MBAs. This restaurant is swimming in them. The feta at the restaurant is so fresh, it really hits your palette. This is just a warning. Most people aren’t used to really fresh feta, but it makes their salads have a very different taste. I highly recommend the Greek salad so you can get a good dose of their feta cheese.
The last great Coney Island of the DMA is a Leo’s Coney Island on 9 mile road in Southfield, Michigan. Leo’s Coney Island has very good food but is quite unsophisticated. Like most people from Michigan, you go to a Coney Island for good food. Leo’s is very clean and the table layout is quite simple. The atmosphere is quaint and the staff are very matter-of-fact people. While people are friendly, the exchanges are straight to the point. I like Leo’s because his breakfast is fantastic. The food has a crisp taste and everything makes your tongue come alive. If you want good food without a long wait, Leo’s is the place.
Coney Island restaurants serve a mix of Greek and classic American food. They are very popular in Michigan. These Coney Island restaurants are shining stars from this unique cultural culinary bloom. Please try a Coney Island. The food is wonderful.
