Some of Hollywood’s couples have gotten married in over the top, sensational, weddings. Some were outlandish, and some were just plain weird and lacked any romance (simply tasteless). Let’s check out the 10 tackiest Hollywood weddings.
Celine Dion and René Angélil
Canadian singing sensation Celine Dion and her manager René Angélil got married on December 17,1994 in Montreal, Canada at the Notre Dame Basilica. It seems like yesterday when I was a teenager at home in Toronto, Canada watching it on TV thinking that it was such a grand spectacle, rather than a wedding. I remember Celine’s twenty-foot train on her wedding dress with her eight bridesmaids to attend to the train. Since it was a week before Christmas, a mountainous French profiterole wedding cake was served to their five hundred thirty guests, which was topped with pastel roses gathered together in a Christmas tree formation. At the reception, the theme was Arabic with camels, exotic birds, and musicians as entertainment. Indeed, an over the top wedding.
Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley
Michael Jackson married the late Elvis Presley’s daughter Lisa Marie Presley on May 26, 1994 in the Dominican Republic. Most people could not believe the two were a couple, as the they made their first public appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards on September 18, 1994 engaging in a public kiss.
After 18 months of marriage, Presley filed for divorce in February 1996 citing irreconcilable differences. But the two remained good friends after they divorced, when Jackson died in June 2009, Presley stated, “Our relationship was not ‘a sham’ as is being reported in the press. It was an unusual relationship yes, where two unusual people who did not live or know a ‘normal life’ found a connection, perhaps with some suspect timing on his part.”
Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman
Carmen Electra married NBA basketball star Dennis Rodman in November 1998. The wedding took place at Little Chapel of the Flowers in Las Vegas, Nevada. The marriage was very odd from the very start because just after nine days, Rodman filed for an annulment to the marriage stating that he was in an, “unsound mind when he recited his vows.” In translation that means: he was so drunk to the point where he did not know what he was saying. Electra filed for divorce in April 1999 stating the split was amicable. This is what you get when you party in Vegas.
Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Tesse
Marilyn Manson and Dita Von Teese were married in a private, non-denominational ceremony at Gottfried Helnwein’s Irish castle on December 3, 2005. The theme of the wedding was goth as they entered the Great Hall of the castle under Gothic arches and harp music playing. They said their vows to one another at midnight.
After one year of marriage on December 29, 2006, Von Tesse filed for divorce citing,”Irreconcilable differences, infidelity, and partying.” Sounds like a horror movie to me.
Britney Spears and Jason Alexander
Britney Spears got married to childhood friend Jason Alexander January 3, 2004 — between 5:00 am to 5:30 am at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. There were no guests at their wedding. She was given away by a Palms Casino Hotel employee. Britney wore blue jeans and a baseball cap. Jason wore a casual shirt. Their marriage ended by an annulment 55 hours later. Another tacky Vegas wedding and possibly the shortest marriage ever.
Jennifer Lopez and Cris Judd
Jennifer Lopez tried her luck at marriage a second time, when she married Cris Lee Judd, her dancer and choreographer in a small wedding in a home in Calabasas, California on September 29, 2001. Seeing that she had recently broken up with P. Diddy, she fell into the arms of her back up dancer. The romance seemed endless, but then Lopez met Ben Affleck and the two started dating. Just after eight months of marriage Lopez and Judd broke up in June 2002 and officially divorced in January 2003. After the split, no one really knows what happened to Judd as he is famously only known for being,”the dancer who married Jennifer Lopez.” Now that’s a tacky title.
Pamela Anderson and Kid Rock
They say the second time is a charm, so Pamela Anderson married rock singer Kid Rock on July 29, 2006 on a yacht near Saint Tropez near the French Riviera. Their marriage was not legal because St. Tropez requires one month residence before being able to get married there along with a civil wedding at the mayor’s office. But Anderson had one wild time as she tore off her dress after the wedding and remained in a white bikini. After the wedding reception concluded, the two were still on their Pam-Kid wedding express train. So they headed back to the States and got married (or partied) three more times in Malibu, Detroit, and Nashville. After four months of marriage, Anderson filed for divorce citing irreconcilable differences from Kid Rock before Thanksgiving in November 2006. I guess the Pam-Kid wedding express had come to its final stop.
Drew Barrymore and Tom Green
Drew Barrymore married comedian Tom Green on July 2, 2001 in Malibu, California on a beachfront ceremony. This odd pairing had everyone guessing how long this one would last, and after nearly six months of marriage, Green filed for divorce on December 2001 citing irreconcilable differences. Too bad for Tom as he has not seen Drew since the end of their marriage, we also haven’t seen much of Tom in the public eye ever since their divorce.
Renee Zellweger and Kenny Chesney
Actress Renee Zellweger tied the knot to country singer Kenny Chesney on May 9, 2005 in St. John in the Virgin Islands in a small, private wedding on the beach. During the wedding the two of them were barefoot and many started to question the validity of their marriage, as Chesney claimed to have been a fan of Zellweger’s before he had met her. The marriage lasted only four months and Zellweger in September 2005 filed for an annulment in their marriage citing fraud as the reason. Seems like Renee saw that he was, indeed, an obsessed fan that was becoming very creepy.
Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett
Oscar award winning actress Julia Roberts and country man Lyle Lovett were married on June 27, 1993 at St. James Lutheran Church in Marion, Indiana. In this small town in Indiana everyone flocked to the church where the two were married and could not really believe that Roberts was with this eccentric country singer. The odd pair seemed to be going strong, but after two years of marriage they got divorced on March 22, 1995. Roberts has now moved on to become one of Hollywood’s leading women and has kissed her days of marrying a country singer goodbye.
