There’s nothing more miserable then having to deal with an upset stomach whatever the reason that brought it on. I, as well as millions of others out there have dealt with this on numerous occasions, and it’s not pleasant. There are a number of homemade remedies that I have used as well as things recommended by medical professionals that may help you relieve the symptoms of that nasty upset stomach feeling. Prevention of course is always the best medicine for any ailment so I will give you some tips on how you can help prevent that upset stomach from occurring in the first place and also remedies on its relief when it does happen.
Limit the use of problematic foods and drinks in your diet. You may notice a pattern after awhile as to just what foods and beverages cause you to have an upset stomach. If you absolutely can’t stay away from these foods that seem to aggravate your stomach, eat moderately and slower and allow your food to digest properly. After eating, if the indigestion starts, slowly chew on a stick of gum. This may help reduce stomach acid and prevent heartburn.
Investigate your medications. If you start having issues with an upset stomach when you start taking a new medication or there was a change in the dosage, talk your doctor about the possibility of taking less dosage but more frequently until your stomach gets adjusted to the medication or ask if there may be an alternative medicine.
Get things moving with cinnamon. Cinnamon stimulates the digestive system.
Take an antacid for upset stomach relief. Don’t take them for too long periods of time though. If you have to rely on them constantly, you should seek medical advice in case you may heading for a more serious problem like stomach ulcers.
Take baking soda. Mix a teaspoon of baking soda in a glass of water and drink it down. This remedy is as old as “grandma”, or maybe even older, and many people still rely on it for upset stomach relief.
Try taking better care of your body. Stress can be one of the biggest triggers of upset stomachs. I have experienced this more times then I care to count. Try to relax and get some exercise rather then sit and stew over an issue. As hard as this may be to do sometimes, it does help.
Reach for foods and drinks that may bring upset stomach relief. Mint, ginger tea, bananas, soda crackers, honey, lemon juice, caraway seeds, ginger ale and lemon lime sodas are all suggested remedies to help tame that upset stomach.
Use a hot water bottle on your tummy. After you eat place the hot water bottle filled with hot water on your stomach to help increase circulation.
Don’t lay down right after eating. Try eating earlier and allowing your food to digest before going to bed will help prevent acid indigestion and heartburn.
