Japanese eating champion, Takeru Kobayashi, upstaged today’s winner of the 2010 Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest (Joey Chestnut) by getting himself arrested on stage! See video of Takera Kobayashi getting arrested below.
The annual hot dog eating event is held each year on the Fourth of July at Coney Island in New York, and this year, competitive-eating champion Joey Chestnut would take the win. Joey Chestnut choked down 54 hot dogs in ten minutes during the 2010 Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island on Sunday, but just as his victory was being announced, Takeru Kobayashi crashed the stage.

‘Tsunami’ Takeru Kobayashi Arrested As Joey Chestnut Wins Nathan’s 2010 Hot Dog Eating Contest
This is the fourth annual Nathan’s International Hot Dog Eating Contest win in a row for Joey Chestnut, but Takeru Kobayashi actually holds a standing of six wins at the Coney Island event. Takeru Kobayashi didn’t compete in today’s event, not because he didn’t want to, but because he didn’t want to sign a required contract with Major League Eating. Major League Eating is a sort of big-leagues competitive eating organization (think NFL for football, MLB for baseball…MLE for hot dogs), and Kobayashi said he didn’t want to pin himself down by signing.
The self-professed free agent eater apparently was irked at being left out of the Fourth of July fun at Coney Island Sunday. Just after Joey Chestnut and the others finished eating, Takeru Kobayashi stormed the stage and what happened next has completely overshadowed the Joey Chestnut win. What Kobayashi had planned to do once on the stage is unknown, because security was on him immediately. He resisted them and held on to a barricade until officers pried him loose. NYPD officers then handcuffed Takeru Kobayashi, arrested him and removed him from the scene, as on-lookers taunted them, chanting “Let Him Eat! Let Him Eat!” and “Free Kobi!” Kobayashi appeared to be at least mildly resistant.
