SYTYCD 2010, June 24 Elimination Results for Season 7’s Top 10 dancers. America voted last night, placing three dancers with the least votes in danger. Those dancers will dance for their lives. The judges will decide which one will leave the stage for the last time as a competitor. Live from Hollywood, the Top 10 kicked off the show with a routine choreographed by Sonya Tayeh, to the music ‘Royal T’ by Crookers.
The first dancers to learn their fates, after a review of their performances last night were: Kent Boyd, AdéChiké Torbert, and Cristina Santana. Kent was named safe first. Cristina is the first to land in the bottom three- she was also there last week. AdéChiké is safe. Host Cat Deeley asked judge Adam Shankman what he thought about Cristina being in danger. He said he didn’t understand why. Her performance last night was hot.
The next dancers to learn their fates, after a review of their performances last night were: Alex Wong, Jose Ruiz, Ashley Galvan, and Melinda Sullivan. Alex was the third dancer to learn that he is safe. Jose is also safe! Melinda is the second dancer to land in the bottom three, as she was last week. Ashley is safe. Cat asked judge Nigel Lythgoe what he thought about Melinda being in danger. He said she needs to find something that makes an audience connect with her.
The last dancers to learn their fates, after a review of their performances last night were: Lauren Froderman, Billy Bell, and Robert Roldan. Lauren is safe! Robert is the third to enter the bottom three. Billy is safe. Cat asked judge Mia Michaels what she thought about Robert being in danger. She said she was shocked. She said her criticism may have been a bit harsh last night but Robert is by far one of the judges’ favorite performers this season.
Next up. In gold suits and masks, Bryan Gaynor and his crew of two, Remote Control, performed a robotic dance to Eskmo’s ‘Agnus Dei’. Bryan had auditioned for season 3 of SYTYCD and had greatly impressed the judges as well as emotionally moved them. He has scoliosis, which is painful and has caused his spine to curve. He and his friends are brilliant and remarkable.
Dance Solos in the Dancer’s Style: The first dancer in danger to dance for her life was Cristina. She performed her genre of Salsa to ‘Quimbara’ by Celia Cruz and Johnny Pacheco. The next dancer in danger, Melinda, tap-danced to ‘Heels’ by Q-Tip. Then, the third, Robert, danced Contemporary to Lissie’s ‘Everywhere I Go’.
Host Cat Deeley sent the judges- Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels, Adam Shankman- backstage to deliberate about which dancer to send home. Meanwhile, Costa Rican superstar Debi Nova performed her new song ‘Drummer Boy’ from her new album ‘Luna Nueva’ (New Moon). Six of the 12 SYTYCD all-star dancers backed her: Ade Obayomi; Comfort Fedoke; Courtney Galiano; Lauren Gottlieb; Mark Kanemura; Neil Haskell.
The ‘Cut’ Decision. The decision was not unanimous. Nigel said to Robert that it would have been too easy to send him home just because the guys outnumber the girls- he instead pronounced Robert safe. Nigel told Cristina that he wanted her to stay but his two colleagues, Mia and Adam, opted to keep Melinda instead. Hence, Melinda is safe and Cristina is going home. The guy-to-girl ratio is now 6:3.
