I have a bad feeling.
I have a bad feeling that on tonight’s So You Think You Can Dance results show, we’re going to see jazz/contemporary dancer Lauren go home. It’s not good, but I think it might happen. I think we’ll see Kent, Robert, and Adéchiké in the SYTYCD season finale next week.
How did I come to this conclusion?
Lauren is an outstanding dancer, and she deserves to be in the finale. I loved both of her numbers last night, and I thought she was tremendous. Were her numbers show-stopping enough last night, given that she was in the bottom three dancers last week? I’m not sure. I don’t think so.
That said, if Adéchiké wasn’t in this competition, Lauren would be in the SYTYCD finale.
Here’s the weird thing: Adéchiké is never in the bottom three dancers. Ever. Even though he should be. If he had been at any point, he would be gone from the competition now because the judges would have eliminated him by now. Adéchiké hasn’t shown any growth for weeks, he continues to lack chemistry with every partner, and he is stiff as a board every time he dances.
And yet, he must resonate with the viewers, because they always vote for him. You can’t argue with that, and that’s why I think he’ll be in the SYTYCD finale. I’m not happy about it, but I think he’ll be there.
Kent is a shoo-in for the finale. There’s no way he won’t make it through, even with a rough night last night. I wasn’t as impressed with the Travis Wall routine that Kent danced with Neil as the judges were. It wasn’t as good as I had thought it would be, and I thought Neil out-danced Kent by a mile – whereas when they danced the Broadway baseball-player number, Kent out-danced Neil. Kent was shown up by his All Star partner last night. And his disco was stinky.
Nevertheless, Kent will still be in the SYTYCD finale. And he should be.
And that leaves Robert. It’s possible that Robert might get voted off tonight – that would be the only way to save Lauren. But his gorgeous Viennese waltz and phenomenal hip-hop number with Dominic (he out-danced Dominic in his own style, for crying out loud) should land Robert in the finale. He was tremendous last night. It’s the first time I’ve really, really felt that way about him.
I think that even though Lauren is an amazing dancer, her lack-luster choreography last night puts her in danger. Robert was given some really showy stuff, and he executed it brilliantly. Lauren danced her numbers brilliantly, too, but the choreography didn’t show her off enough – it wasn’t exciting or quirky enough to edge her past Robert.
So, I think that on tonight’s SYTYCD results show, Lauren will go home, and Adéchiké, Robert, and Kent will head on to theSo You Think You Can Dance finale. Am I happy about this? No. I think Adéchiké should go home tonight. Do I think that will happen? Not a chance.
I hope I’m wrong.
