The Major Decision – inside or outside
My wife and I were married in July of 2002 in beautiful downtown Annapolis, MD. There was no doubt where we were getting married, St. Mary’s Church in Downtown Annapolis (http://www.stmaryschurch.org/)
The big question was where to have the reception and that led to the most important decision of all; have the reception inside or outside? Okay, for me this was a no brainer, I was going to be in 4 layers of clothes in 90 degree weather. No chance was I going to be outside dripping sweat the entire day. I needed air conditioning, fans, cool drinks, etc. It was my day (yes I know it wasn’t my day by any stretch of the imagination but let me have my fantasy) and I wanted to be comfortable.
Hotel or Restaurant
Inside it is, now the hard part (but enjoyable) of finding a proper place to have the reception. We are in Annapolis after all so you have to somehow incorporate crabs and water into the wedding day. We checked out a few places and came down to deciding between going the hotel route or the restaurant route.
First stop was the Annapolis Marriott Waterfront (http://www.annapolismarriott.com/). Great location, right on the water, has a nice big ballroom, etc. So we go and have a look and the second I walked in I knew this was not the place for me. Ballroom was nice but was dark with virtually no windows. To see the water you had to walk across a parking lot looking area and peer over a solid wall. Not exactly what I was imagining.
Okay, now we shall check out a nice local restaurant, The Chart-House in Annapolis (http://www.chart-house.com/). We walk in and there is no doubt this is the place. Floor to ceiling windows all around, the restaurant virtually sits on the water itself, boats are all around us. This is Annapolis. So not only is the place perfect in terms of looks, it also is one of the nicest restaurants around so the food is superb. Crabcakes, steaks, pasta, its all on the menu… come to daddy.
The day arrives, people show up, and my day has begun (don’t mess with my fantasy). Goes amazing, wedding is perfect, bride is beautiful, and the reception is a 100% success. Everyone that walks in immediately is amazed by the location and the view, drinks start flowing, music starts going, and the afternoon disappears in a flash. A quick water taxi for the guests ensures that the party continues long into the night. Now that was a day to remember.
