With a small population of about 23,000 people, the small Village of Park Forest Illinois where I call home is hosting a wealth of summer camps and activities for Summer 2010. With detailed information found on the village website at villageofparkforest.com, the villages Recreation & Parks Department boasts of “new and improved summer camps… with an early start option, extended weeks, and new activities…”.
There is a Wee-Care Day Camp for Pre-School aged children which includes motor, language, and social activities and arts and crafts. Two days weekly for children aged three, and three days weekly for children ages four and five.
For 1st and 2nd graders, the Village of Park Forest has a Camp Can-Do which is four days weekly and fills those days with crafts, games, and the enjoyment of the many beautiful parks and wetlands of Park Forest Illinois. There are also swim lessons for the Can-Do Campers at the newly renovated Park Forest Aqua Center.
Discovery Day Camp is the Village summer program for children entering the 3rd and 4th grades. This program includes crafts, team sports, exploration of the villages parks and wetlands, swim lesson at the Park Forest Aqua Center, and optional weekly Wednesday field trips at an additional cost. This camp is available five days weekly if you include the optional field trip Wednesdays.
The next level camp offered by the Village of Park Forest is Summerscape Day Camp. This camp is for children entering grades 5th through 7th. The days in Summerscape consist of games, sports, arts and crafts, education on the villages parks and wetlands, swim lessons at the Park Forest Aqua Center, and Wednesday field trips at an additional cost. Like Discovery Day Camp, Summerscape Day Camp is five days weekly if you include the optional Wednesday field trips.
The Village of Park Forest also offers what they call Early Riser’s Camp which is open to participants of all the village camps. Early Riser’s Camp is for children who’s parents need an earlier drop off.
The days for all of the camps are about as long as a school day during the year and all of the camps last 7 – 8 weeks and are reasonably priced.
Outside of the Village of Park Forest Summer Camp Programs, there are many other programs this small but mighty village has to offer it’s residents. The Park Forest Police Department has many programs for children during the summer as well. These programs include the Police Athletic Activities Center (P.A.A.C.) for children ages 10 through 15, and the Police Central Sports Club (P.C.S.C.) for children ages 5 through 17.
There are also various dance, gymnastics, art, and music classes which can all be taken as summer activities for children right in the culturally rich Village of Park Forest. There are also tennis lessons, karate classes, organized sports and many more activities available to register your children for to fill their summer days productively.
