The sun can help you get rid of acne is another acne myth that needs to be dispelled. The sun can help you short-term sometimes to clear acne but in the long-term it is harmful. This myth was pretty wise though because it was really created to keep young people from having premarital sex. There is no better way to try to prevent premarital sex than by saying having sex or masturbating will cause these severe acne breakouts. There is absolutely no scientific evidence to support a link between sex and masturbation to the occurrence of acne. There might be a good reason however why someone might think that sex and acne are related. In reality, the higher levels of the male sex hormone are known to make someone have a more severe case of acne. This increase in the male sex hormone does not have anything to do with the sex drive or engaging in premarital sex which makes it a myth.
Stress being a cause of acne is another myth that has been around for many years without any credibility. Stress can affect the hormones and therefore could contribute to acne but it does not directly cause acne. If you are on certain medications for stress or anxiety, this might actually be the cause if you suffer from acne and not the stress itself. A lot of medications for mental disorders have acne as a possible side effect which might be where this myth came from. Everyone feels stress and the increase in the hormones can mess with certain chemicals throughout the body but it does not directly link to getting acne. Instead of feeling bad about being stressed out you should be thinking of a preventative treatment plan for the acne breakouts.
