If you’re like me, you can’t stand wearing the same makeup look day in, day out. This summer, I want to add more edge to my look, and get rid of some old makeup that no longer flatters me. Here’s some new trends for a new summer look, and some simple tips to bring out that sexy little goddess in you!
1. Colored Mascara. Colored mascara can brighten the eyes, and bring out your eye color. Those who don’t have eyes that stand out can make them stand out with colored mascara. Colored mascara doesn’t require any other eye makeup, because it makes a statement on it’s on. Blues, pinks, greens, and silver is the most popular.
Goddess Tip: For a more natural look, use a color that is closest to your eye color. Only apply a couple of coats. This will make your eyes more pronounced, but not too much to the point where it looks costume-y. For an edgier look, apply a color that is contrast to your eye color or something colorful, like pink. Top it off by applying an eye shadow that matches your eye color, from lash line to the crease of your eye lids.
2. Liquid Eyeliner. Liquid eyeliner has the tendency to make eyes look very elegant and retro glam. But it can also give your eyes an edgy kick. Black liquid eyeliner is the most recommended, but don’t rule out other colors. Silver, gold, and other metallic and shimmery shades are making a comeback.
Goddess Tip: If you’re using black or brown liner, line the top lid placing minimal pressure on the brush at the inner corner of your eyes. As you go, press harder and watch the line get thicker as you get to the outer corner. This gives you the classic “cat eye” effect. Retrace the line until it is as thick and dark as you want it to be. For an edgier look, use a metallic or colored shade. Line the top lid using the same method, but line the bottom lid with a black pencil. Extend the line to the outer corners of the lid. Then top it off with black mascara.
3. Shimmer Powder. Shimmery skin is absolutely necessary for the summer-even a shimmery face. But be careful, it’s done in moderation. Use a shimmery bronzer, or illuminating powder (highlighter) to brighten your features or reduce the look of skin dullness.
Goddess Tip: Dust a bronzing powder all over your face, neck and shoulders. To contour your face, dust a slighly darker amount in the hollows of your cheeks. Highlight the forehead, bridge of the nose, chin, and apples of the cheek with a silver shimmer powder if you have light skin, and a gold powder if you have dark skin.
4. Bold Lipstick. Dark or bright colored lips are also a trend from yesteryear, but they’re back. Burgandies, reds, and plums are the most popular.
Goddess Tip: If you have fair/light skin, try a cherry red. If you have medium/olive try a burgundy. And if you have dark skin, try a wine or plum color.
Enjoy your new summer look! :)
