As we reach age 50 and older, controlling and managing our weight becomes more difficult and according to Government statistics, 72% of men and woman over the age of 50 are overweight.
Staying fit and living a healthy lifestyle will improve your entire life in every aspect. All the little aches and pains will disappear, moods will elevate, your sex life will return, and you will feel like a million bucks.
All you have to do is look around at the world over age 50, and you will have to admit, something needs to change!
Follow these tips and I honestly believe your life will change for the better and you will be on your way to a healthier life:
Move your body
You are 50 plus years old and probably tired and just want to sit and relax, right? Well, this is part of the problem. If you have been relaxing a little too much then it is time to get up and move your body. Try it and you will be amazed at how your body reacts when you give it a little exercise.
Any kind of an exercise routine is very important and should be a part of your life 30 minutes a day at least 3 to 4 times a week.
Stretching and keeping your ligaments and joints working is vital to a long and pain free life. You do not have to spend hundreds of dollars on machines, memberships and gimmicks just find a bar that you can grip with both hands and hang from and stretch your entire body and back.
Walking will do wonders for you and will strengthen every part of your body from the tips of your toes to the top of your head. Try joining a walking group, start your own, or go swimming, hiking or biking. Your body needs to stay active so do something to keep it moving.
I just joined a popular gym for only $10 dollars down and $26 dollars a month that allows me to go any time. If you do not feel comfortable in a gym right now then you can invest in some weights or a treadmill for home use. You do not have to lift heavy weights or try to become a body builder just exercise those muscles, and you will be surprised at the transformation your body will make!
Whatever you decide that is the best for you, make it a point to start an exercise program today!
Everyone knows that as we get older our metabolism slows down, and we do not process and digest food like the way we did when we were younger. Yet, as we get older most of us continue to eat, drink, party and stay up late like we were still in college and the results are big bellies, constant indigestion, weight problems, sleep problems not to mention sexual dysfunction, moodiness and a vast amount of other medical problems.
As we start to exercise and living in a healthier lifestyle our appetites will increase and the desire for fast food, soda and junk food will go away and our bodies will cry out for the need to eat a healthier diet.
As your diet improves, your entire life will change for the better.
America is “burning the candle at both ends” trying to keep up with the Jones’s or just stay on top of the debt. As we do this, not only does our diet suffer, but also we give up our sleep and we work ourselves into exhaustion.
Getting the proper amount of sleep is more important than anything is. Not getting enough sleep will make you age faster and look older. Everyone is different, but the average adult needs six to eight hours of sleep per night.
The common saying that “laughter is the best medicine” is truer than we can imagine. Laughter triggers healthy changes in our bodies, relieves stress, boosts our energy levels, strengthens our immune systems, relaxes our body, lightens our burdens, binds people together and strengthens relationships, lessens pain and inspires to hope.
Laughter is contagious and if you do not believe that start laughing and see what happens.
Try a fun game and old party favorite I use to do. Get as many people as you can and lay on the floor and lay his or her head on the stomach of another person and start laughing. Before you know it, heads will be bouncing all over the place as everyone starts laughing and cannot stop. Those who are just standing around and not participating will also get a laugh watching, it is a lot of fun.
Stop being so grumpy
Did you know that a person’s face takes on the characteristics of how they feel and who they are on the inside? In other words, you look like what you are.
It seems that as we get older we start to take on the look of an old grouch with a scowl and our face begins to look like how think and feel.
Stop being so aggravated at everything. Try taking on a more positive outlook on life and looking at life in a completely new perspective. Start feeling how wonderful it is to be alive, healthy and blessed. Your life will change and so will your face.
Do you remember when the weekends were so important and we could not wait to enjoy the time off relaxing and doing the things we wanted to do?
They say the average person lives to be age 85 years old, which means, they only have 4,080 weekends to enjoy.
If you are 50 years old right now then you only have 1,680 weekends left. I do not know about you, but that is a revelation. Do we really have time to waste, be angry or depressed about how terrible our lives are? It is time to start living and enjoying not only the weekends we have left, but also every day!
You are entering the golden age of your life and spirituality or a belief in a higher being, a great creator or Heavenly Father is vital to a balanced life. . If you are one, who has not given any real thought or consideration on this matter, then perhaps the time is now that you do.
There are those who do not believe in God or need some kind of proof that God exists. If you are one who needs proof then I ask you to think about one of my favorite questions; “does a man light a torch to see the sun”? I think that most people, if they truly are honest with themselves will admit that there is something higher, something more advanced or something called, God.
I have a personal testimony and believe with all my heart that God, our Heavenly Father, does live and that Jesus is the Christ, the son of God.
I want to live to be 106 years old. For some reason, I like that figure and refuse to believe I would leave this life any sooner.
It is my true belief that life can only get better as we get older. I believe that as we stay fit physically, emotionally and spiritually that these things are the key to a long, healthy and fit life not to mention, more weekends.
