A hot day can suck. It makes you hot (of course), sticky, tired, lazy, it’s not much fun at all. I’m more of a fan of that lovely in-between weather. You know, not too hot and not too cold.
But I thought I’d help out anyone who is like me and not really into the heat with a few tips on how to stay cool during those hot summer days. Most of you may already do these things, but it’s always good to list them for those who don’t. Of course, which tips you follow is up to you.
Instead of wearing pants and long shirts, try to dress cool. Completely covering up could make you even more hot. Shorts and capris along with tank tops and maybe t-shirts could be a big help. I can tell you from experience, I once wore pants and t-shirts all the time in the summer. I ended up getting dizzy and sick from the heat. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with t-shirts, but maybe wearing them with shorts would be better. If you want to wear pants, maybe wear a tank top along with it. This way you give yourself the chance to stay a little more cool.
This isn’t just good for staying cool, but for staying healthy as well. For me, water is the best choice. Other drinks I would suggest are juice, Gatorade or PowerAde, or Lemonade. Some people do like soda (which I do drink, not the best choice in the heat, I know) and Kool-Aid. But I would definitely try to drink the other drinks I listed, as they are probably more healthy for you to drink in the blistering heat.
Fan or Air Conditioner.
If possible (because I know we all have bills to pay), use a fan or air conditioner. You can find fans of different sizes and wind power and of course your air conditioner can go right into your window. Some people do have central air that they can use. But there are still a lot of people who do not (such as my household). My house usually uses a fan during the Spring and the air conditioner during the summer.
Play In The Water.
Playing in the water is not only a good way to stay cool, but it’s a lot of fun as well. There are a few ways to play with or in the water. You can use water guns or water balloons, use special sprinklers for playing in the summer, use the hose (yes, we have done that), and of course putting a pool in the backyard. You can also go to the public pool or the beach to swim. You can also jump in the shower to cool off if need be.
These are just a few ways to help stay cool on those hot and sticky days. You may have your own ways as well. Whatever you decide to do, I wish you all a cool and comfortable summer.
