Most Police Officers in their daily routine will encounter motorists committing various kinds of traffic violations. Part of an Officer’s duties is to monitor traffic, watch for violators and issue traffic tickets, so there is safety on the roadways.
There are Officers assigned to traffic units where the primary function is to enforce traffic laws. Some Officers will become proficient at certain violations such as speeding, and they are very serious and all about safety. They know all too well how speed kills because they have seen in their careers unspeakable things and accidents where small children were injured or someone killed, which is very traumatizing and so the Officer will do all he/she can to make sure it does not happen again.
As you travel along the roadways keep these tips in mind on how to avoid going too fast so you do not get a ticket:
Drive the speed limit
Simply obeying the speed limit is the obvious way not to get a speeding ticket. Surface streets are speed limit only, (meaning there may not be a grace range and you could get a ticket for just barley going over the limit)and the speed limits will change in various areas so, pay attention to the speed limit signs. Officers know which areas are popular for speeders and will be running radar and monitoring areas such as School zones, Hospitals and heavy pedestrian areas so, learn where these areas are in your neighborhood and stay alert.
Flow with traffic
Flowing along with traffic looking like a “school of fish” or “train”, is most likely not going to get you stopped even though everyone is going over the speed limit. However, the moment you decide the group of cars is going too slow, and you change lanes, speed up and try to pass everyone, zap, you’re caught.
The older belief is that if you follow behind a group of cars going over the speed limit, the lead car will usually get the blame, pulled over and ticketed. This is not true today.
The radar that Officers are using is the same laser radar used in our Military. All an Officer has to do is pick out the car he/she believes is speeding, point the laser at that vehicle and lock in the speed of that car, even if the car is in the middle of the group.
It might be noted that there is no possible way to beat today’s new advanced laser radar guns because if the same type of laser can guide a million dollar missile it can catch you speeding.
Weaving in and out of traffic
Weaving in and out of traffic will only draw attention and catch the eye of the Officer. This is especially true when you are in heavy traffic, and you think that by speeding up, changing lanes and passing everyone little by little will get you to your destination quicker, well think again.
We have all seen on the freeway that one person who obviously is impatient or is in more of hurry than everyone else is, weaving in and out of traffic passing everyone. I love to watch a person like this because it seems like they are working very hard for nothing not to mention putting himself and others in danger. The next time you see this have a little fun by driving the speed limit and keeping an eye on that person. Watch how you constantly catch up to him and end up together a few miles down the road at the same time. This will prove how speeding just is not the answer.
Speeding is a waste of money
No one can argue speeding is a waste of money. Having to watch our budgets now days makes economical sense that driving properly does save money.
No one has money to give away. Speeding uses more gas and gasoline is expensive. A speeding ticket will cost you hundreds of dollars, and I know you will agree that getting a ticket is such a waste of money that it is not even funny. If you attend traffic school then that will cost you more money and getting a speeding ticket will add points to your driving record, which only means higher insurance rates.
Radar detectors
Radar detectors became popular a long time ago, and they may have been a good warning back then that the Police were somewhere near by running radar, but this is not true today with the more advance radar guns. The officer can click the laser beam off until he is ready to use it so there is no radar signal out there to detect. When a speeding car approaches, he can simply click in on, lock in the speed and turn it off in seconds, and by the time you can slow down the radar gun already recorded your speed. Many complaints from consumers about radar detectors is that they are constantly going off because of random “ghost signals” so it is hard to tell and annoying, so they are a waste of money.
In conclusion
We are a fast-paced society always in a hurry. Speeding tickets are probably the number one ticket issued by the Police and drivers throw millions of hard-earned dollars away each year paying for tickets.
Watch your speed, leave a little earlier and arrive in one piece.
Drive safely.
