Sore throats are horrible. They are painful and uncomfortable. Depending on how bad the sore throat is, they make it difficult to talk, swallow, or open your mouth. A sore throat can be caused from coughing, colds, allergies, or other illnesses, and from screaming. Nobody enjoys a sore throat, and you may be looking for different ways to relieve the pain.
Almost every winter, I end up with a cold and nasty cough that lasts for a bit. All of the coughing ends up causing me to have a sore throat. So of course I wanted a way to relieve the pain in my throat. Over the years of dealing with this, I have learned a few different remedies for soothing a sore throat, and I want to share them with you.
It is known by many that hot tea can help to sooth a sore throat. A lot of people recommend putting a little honey in your hot tea, especially if you have a sore throat from coughing. The honey in the tea will help to coat the sore throat. Of course, I recommend letting the tea cool down a little bit before drinking it. While heat can help with pain, too much of it can burn it and make it worse.
Throat or Cough Drops.
Cough or throat drops will help to bring down the coughing that is causing your sore throat. A lot of them contain medicine, vitamins, and such in them to help fight the germs or bacteria that is making your throat ache. I personally do not recommend taking these if you are coughing way too much, as you do not want to end up inhaling and choking on the cough or throat drop.
There are various types of throat sprays from different brands that can help you to numb the back of your throat. They will have the directions printed on the bottle, but you just spray it in the back of your throat. This will only relieve the pain for awhile, but it does work as long as it can.
Gargling With Warm Salt Water.
I have heard from many that gargling with warm salt water every few hours will help to sooth a sore throat. The warm salt water will kill any bacteria and germs that are causing your throat to be sore. It may not taste great, but if it will make your throat feel better, then it is worth a try!
Gargling With Mouthwash.
If you do want to gargle with warm salt water, then you can try gargling with mouthwash every few hours instead. Mouthwash will also kill the germs, as well as keeping your throat clean. I have heard various people recommend gargling with a mint-flavored mouthwash if you are sick.
If you feel up to eating it, cold food such as ice cream or popsicles can help sooth a sore throat. It will help to numb the pain and bring down any swelling in your throat. Plus, it tastes better as well.
Over The Counter Medication.
You can find different over the counter medicine for soothing your sore throat, especially if it is accompanied by a cough or cold. You can find them from different brands for both daytime and night time, and take them as directed. They may not always taste great, but it does help, and that alone is worth a shot.
These are six different ways to help sooth a sore throat. This gives you a few choices on what to try. If one choice does not work, then you can try another one. These tips may only relieve the pain, and not cure the sore throat, so if these remedies do not work, then it may be a good idea to go visit your physician to see what is wrong and what can be done. Good luck and I hope your throat feels better!
