So You Think You Can Dance: Lauren Has Wardrobe Malfunction, Michaels Disses Melinda, Alex Can’t Go Wong

by itchyfish

Alex Wong, plain and simple, was fantastic on Wednesday night’s episode of SYTYCD. He brought judges Nigel Lythgoe, Mia Michaels and Adam Shankman to the their feet, which is no small accomplishment, when this ballet dancer performed a hip hop routine.

The judges had nary a negative word for Wong. “This is your world and I’m just visiting,” said a gushing Shankman. “I am so proud of you!.”

Lythgoe was impressed by Wong’s transformation from ballet dancer to hip-hop dancer, telling Wong this was his best performance yet.

Lauren Froderman’s Wardrobe Malfunction

Note to female dancers: If you can have an almost wardrobe malfunction, that might be a plus. At least that’s what Lauren Froderman found out when the strap of her dress came undone at the end of a sultry Broadway dance.

“That was a seduction and a half,” Lythgoe said. Of course, he wasn’t talking just about the wayward strap–Lauren’s performance to Debbie Gibson’s “Let Me Entertain You,” did just that–it entertained.

Michaels said she would have liked to see a little more slinky, but in the end, she was as impressed as Lythgoe, and of course, Shankman thought the performance was great, too.

Judges Need to be Judged

Now, I have a bone to pick with Michaels, even though she predicted that people were going to hate her for her comments to Melinda Sullivan. “I think we made a mistake last week by letting Cristina go,” she told Sullivan.

Ms. Michaels, the fact that you’re second guessing yourself for all to see is a reflection on your poor judgment, not Sullivan’s performance. Why should Sullivan have to compete against a dancer who is no longer there?

Yes, you can say her legs are like bricks at times, and you just don’t like her pigeon feet, but to invoke the name of the ousted Cristina Santana serves no purpose.

Shankman agreed that a mistake had been made by letting Santana go. But darling, the mistake was yours and Michaels’ because during last week’s show Lythgoe told Sullivan he wanted to let her go, not Santana. Lythgoe was overruled, which should happen from time to time, but if two judges are second guessing themselves, try looking within for the problem.

Tune in Thursday, July 1, 2010 to see who is voted off the show.
