This is a sneak peek review of the children’s safety-themed DVD Let’s Grow: Safety First, which includes animated shorts from Thomas & Friends and Bob the Builder. This Lionsgate and HiT Entertainment product is due to be released on June 29, 2010. I was provided a copy of this children’s safety-themed DVD Let’s Grow: Safety First for review, but was under no obligation to recommend it. My observations are my own.
Thomas & Friends Plus Bob the Builder Highlight the Children’s Safety-Themed DVD Let’s Grow: Safety First
This video is all about helping kids stay safe. In the first feature, Barney: Home Safe Home, the purple and green dinosaur, BJ, Baby Bop, and some small kids demonstrate the do’s and don’ts of safety while at home (in rooms like the kitchen and bedroom) as well as playing nice when participating in tag or using the slide. They use cute little songs to illustrate their points.
The Thomas & Friends feature is called Thomas and the Runaway Car, where the tank engine gets in too big a hurry to deliver Sir Topham Hatt’s new car safely (in trying to race Gordon), with messy results. In Slow Down Scrambler, Bob the Builder has his hands full with the four-wheeler, who’s impatience is messing up a bridge building project.
Fireman Sam Is Featured on the Children’s Safety-Themed DVD Let’s Grow: Safety First
Fireman Sam and his crew make an appearance on this product. In High Jinx, non-swimmer Norman lands in water because of his carelessness, so the firefighting and rescue crew has to come to his aid. The dog Kipper tries to help his friend Tiger survive roller blading for the first time in Skates. The final episode of this children’s safety-themed DVD is considered a bonus and called Angelina’s New School, which sees Angelina Ballerina, a mouse, attending a new performing arts school with other mice, trying to fit in rather than be herself.
In between segments, Sprout personalities Sean and Chica the Chicken comment on and introduce the shorts from the latest DVD of this Let’s Grow Series. For small children this is a wonderful way to reinforce being safe; and thus, I recommend Let’s Grow: Safety First.
The DVD comes with a brochure that gives parents tips on talking safety with their kids. This product is due for release in retail outlets on June 29, 2010 and has a Suggested Retail Price of $14.98, and its running time is about 76 minutes, as mentioned on the case.
