How did Siobhan Magnus do on Idol Tonight? She powered it out, and had a lot of energy
Siobhan Magnus performed on American Idol tonight and she took on one of Shania Twain’s biggest songs, “Any Man of Mine”, and made it her own.
I voted Siobhan as the number one performer with mixed feelings tonight. She went off key in parts, but that was because she was dancing and greeting the audience. For the most part she was right on, and powerful, wheras Crystal’s song came off as meek with not much distinction. Right wrong or indifferent, I will definitely remember Siobhan skipping around on the stage.
As is her custom, she powered out the last few notes, and although later Simon said he thought she sounded like she was having a baby or something, it was a real crowd pleaser and she held the notes flawlessly.
What was she wearing? I am not sure how to describe it. Siobhan’s mid-thing dress was a cross between a sun dress, with a white background and a print, and then she had this leather bodice around the top of her, and it revealed tattoos on her back. Her hair was swept up, softly around her face, but her makeup gave her the look of a rocker. She is definitely an eclectic mix; and you can tell she likes to spice it up.
What do I like most about Siobhan? She’s willing to push it and be vulnerable.
What I most like about Siobhan is that she is willing to try and get out of her comfort zone, her voice is powerful when she is comfortable, and she’s got kicking pipes. Crystal wowed me last week, and Casey wowed me this week but not as much as Siobhan.
Casey is a musician and he can use his guitar playing to his advantage, as can Lee Dewyze, as can Crystal ‘Mamasox’ Bowersox. Siobhan is out there week after week, with nothing in front of her, and I admire that. In some ways she is yet unmolded, and I yet I think she also is strong and won’t sway from her convictions especially when it comes to her “money spot”.
Some have compared Siobhan Magnus to Adam Lambert. Adam was over the top but he also had many years of schooling under his belt. Siobhan has the potential of Pink or Lady Gaga, or even Madonna, or Cher, to create her own niche because of her vocal ability and her willingness to try. She seems like a fighter and someone who won’t settle for less.
Siobhan has been my dark horse front runner for this Season of American Idol, and this week she did not disappoint. My vote for the Top 6: Siobhan Magnus #1. To see the full recap, see here.
