When I read the title on AOL news, “Teens in US T-Shirts Sent Home on Cinco De Mayo”, I was in total disbelief. My thought was and is, SINCE WHEN IS WEARING AMERICAN T-SHIRTS IN AMERICA INAPPROPRIATE? I was stunned, surprised, Last time I checked that part of California is American territory.
When I saw who went and told the kids they could not wear those t-shirts. The vice principle with a Spanish name. Last time I checked we were The United States of America, NOT the United States of Mexico.
I have no problem with people from different nationalities celebrating their home of births events. I do have a problem though when Americans are told they cannot wear an American t-shirt, that is with the American flag on it to school, just because it is the day Mexicans celebrate Cinco De Mayo.
I know what Cinco De Mayo is and have no problems with Mexicans celebrating their victory of French forces. I have news for them though THIS IS NOT MEXICO, so if wearing the Stars and Stripes in and American school offends them. Let them leave. If wearing the stars and stripes in school causes problems with Mexican vice principles and students. Let them not wear their colors or leave the country.
This is the only country on earth that I know of that does such a stupid and asinine thing. If an American youth went to Mexico to go to school and wore the stars and stripes to celebrate American Independence Day, do you think the Mexicans students would not be allowed to wear their countries colors? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
I have never been so offended and disgusted that a Mexican Vice Principle in an American School would have the mitigating nerve to tell American students they cannot wear the stars and stripes at school.
It should be the other way around. The Mexicans should be told they cannot wear their countries colors at school if it causes problems or frictions.
I have no problems with other nationalities, but as far as I am concerned, here in America, we are not white, black, Hispanic, Filipino, or any other ethnic group. We are all Americans whatever the color of skin we have. Wearing the Stars and Stripes should NEVER EVER be forbidden on American soil.
That is ludicrous, anti-American, anti social and anti constitutional. If people from other country origins are offended by the Stars and Stripes, GET OUT OF OUR COUNTRY.
As far as your concerned Mr Vice Principle, GO BACK TO MEXICO. What a bunch of nonsense for a kid being patriotic told he cannot be patriotic because it might cause kids wearing the Mexican colors are offended.
As far as ethnic groups such as Hispanic, you are welcome to celebrate Cinco De Mayo here. But not at the expense of the Stars and stripes. It would be like us going to Mexico and celebrating the Americans defeating Santa Anna, all those years ago and saying, you can’t wear your countries colors while we celebrate. HOGWASH.
