Silver Dollar City, located in Branson, Missouri, is a 61 acre family-friendly theme park nestled in the Ozark Mountains. As a Christian mom, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the park’s respect for God and country is paramount and unmatched by any other major theme park. More about that later…
Some History
SDC was founded by the Herschend family in the mid 1900’s atop of the Marvel Cave, a national landmark and cave tour that is included in your price of SDC admission. The Herschend’s improved the access to the cave and many guests came to visit. The Herschend’s had a small frontier town built to pass the time while guests waited to tour the cave. Silver Dollars were given as change for purchases and that is how Silver Dollar City came to be, eventually turning into the giant amusement park that it is today.
Faith
My family visited SDC during their 50th anniversary event and the Bluegrass festival. There were many blue-grass musicians playing live throughout the park, including Christian musicians who shared their faith in God unapologetically. SDC also has many Inspirational shops and gifts and even a Sunday church service and a daily hymn sing in the chapel. There is also a dress code and smoking restrictions. The Herschends have a strong faith in God and a love of their country which is evident throughout the park. I read through their mission statement and it states that the founders “made personal commitments to Jesus Christ that have infused their every decision, every plan, every manner of dealing with employees and business associates since.” Now THAT is the kind of corporation that I want to support!
Fun
Silver Dollar City has over 30 rides and attractions, 60 shops and restaurants and tons of great shows and entertainment each and every day! SDC hosts Kids Fest each year along with 5 other festivals.
In closing, I couldn’t have asked for a better spot to take my family for vacation this year. I whole-heartedly support and value Silver Dollar City’s commitment to wholesome family fun!
