Siamese cats are well known for being, “people animals.” They love attention, they may sleep with you, love to be held, and like talking to the people they love. Siamese have great temperaments and are good with both the elderly and young children. If you are seeking a great Siamese companion and are interested in adopting one from a rescue organization, I encourage you to check out these Siamese rescue organizations.
Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue: While the Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue is located in Colorado, they serve the Midwest and West as well. This rescue organization currently operates as a network of foster homes who adopt out Siamese cats to individuals who meet the adoption requirements. The adoption process begins with you filling out an application form, which asks questions about your current living situation and any other pets you have in the home. You must also provide the organization with two personal references whom are not related to you. Additionally, your vet must fill out a form, which you must mail or fax with your application. Processing the application requires a $10 non-refundable application fee as well.
According to the Rescue, processing the application takes approximately two weeks, which is then followed by an interview. Once you are approved to adopt a Siamese cat, you will then discuss the specifics of the cat you would like to adopt – lap cat, younger, older, full Siamese, Siamese mix, playful cat, etc. The organization works hard to match cats with adopters so that both the adopter and the cat benefit from the placement. After selecting your Siamese cat, you can then make transportation plans at your own expense to pick up your new companion.
The Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue charges an adoption fee of $125 per kitten up to one year of age and $100 for adult cats one year of age and older. The fee includes vet care given to the cat before adoption, such as: spay or neuter, vaccinations, tests for Feline AIDS and Feline Leukemia, flea, worm, and ear mite treatment, a thorough vet exam, dental care for older cats, and pre-surgery blood work if it is necessary. If you are interested in adopting a Siamese cat from the Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue, you may visit the organization’s website for more information and to see all of the cats they currently have available for adoption.
Purrs Abound Siamese Rescue: Purrs Abound Siamese Rescue is another organization you may want to consider when adopting a Siamese cat. This organization is located in Michigan and the northwestern part of Ohio, and all adoptable cats are kept in foster homes. The adoption process includes an application you may fill out on-line or print out and mail in. The application asks about your home situation, whom is in your home, why you are interested in adopting, allergies, other pets you own, and so forth. You must also have your veterinarian fill out a vet reference form and mail this to Purrs Abound. In addition, you must have two personal references for the application process. A $10 non-refundable fee is required to process the application, and it typically takes about a week to complete processing.
After processing is complete, the Rescue will call and have a phone interview with you. If you are approved to adopt a Siamese cat, you may then visit with the cat/s you are interested in adopting. Adoption fees begin at $185, but may vary, depending on the cat. The fee includes routine veterinary care the feline received while being fostered, such as spay or neuter, vet exams, and vaccinations. It is important to note that the organization asks that each adopter give the cat a minimum of six months to adjust to its new home. Paws Abound also does not adopt to families with children under the age of five years old living in the home.
While the Rescue mostly places Siamese kittens and cats with families in Michigan and Ohio, they welcome applications from individuals living in other states as well. For more information or if you would like to see all of the cats currently available for adoption, you may visit Purrs Abound Siamese Rescue’s website.
Austin Siamese Rescue: The Austin Siamese Rescue works diligently to place Siamese cats as well as other breeds of cats into forever homes. The Austin Siamese Rescue possesses an adoption process similar to other rescue organizations. You must fill out an application either on-line or print one out and mail it. The application asks about your home situation, how many hours a day someone is home, your current and past pets, personal references whom are not related to you, and veterinarian information. You also must agree to keep your cat strictly indoors, to not declaw a cat that has claws, and to put information in your will that states whom should take you feline/s in case of an unexpected death. After your application has been processed, you will undergo a telephone interview. Once accepted, you will discuss the specifics of the cat you are looking for with the organization.
The adoption fee for adult Siamese cats is $125 while an adult Siamese mix is $100. The adoption fee for Siamese kittens is $175 while Siamese mix kittens can be adopted for $150 each. The adoption fee covers the vet work done on the kitties before adoption occurs, such as vet exams, spay or neuter, pre-surgery blood tests if needed, dental work (typically on older cats), vaccinations, tests for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS, and treatment for ear mites, fleas, and worms. If you are interested in adopting a cat from the Austin Siamese Rescue, you may visit the organization’s website for more information.
