Shrek play is good play when it comes to younger players and Shrek Forever After is no exception. This video game takes basic adventure and battle and adds simple problem solving so that kids and other beginner gamers can have fun playing along with the Shrek forever after storyline. The game is fun, easy, and good for kids. Have you seen the Shrek muffin man?
The story closely follows that of the movie. Shrek has grown tired of his life as a comfortable family man. He signs a contract with Rumpelstiltskin that allows him to become a monster once again. Unfortunately, Shrek fails to read the fine print which explains that true love’s kiss is the only way to break the spell and in this alternate reality none of his old friends remember him. In a It’s a Wonderful Life type of storyline, Shrek learns that his life was amazing all along despite his worries. He joins back up with Puss and Donkey to stop Rumpelstiltskin from taking over the kingdom.
Shrek takes the tested formula for fun adventure games and pulls it off pretty well. The battles are fun and action packed but with no ability to really dodge or block enemy attacks it can feel a bit repetitive after a while. The areas are nice and expansive and encourage exploration and collection of items. The graphics on the x-box 360 version are impressive enough to be satisfying and the tone of the overall story is definitely present in the areas and cutscenes. Children and new gamers are the focus of this game–the puzzles included are clever but not so challenging that you can’t get through them. The three blind mice even give advice for coins if you need help getting through it. Shrek’s enemies are skeletons, pirates, witches, and other evil magical creatures. When they are killed they simply disappear, so not terribly violent for younger children. The game includes a four way multiplayer mode that is great fun for families to play together especially for families.
This is a great game for kids and beginning players alike. Shrek fans will enjoy this game and because it has been released before the film it will give people a good glimpse of what the shrek film will look like. If you’re a more serious gamer then you probably won’t be interested in this game.
