Shoe-lovers, rejoice. Fall 2010 is showing some pretty little things that can easily update your look without breaking the bank. Check the shoe trends for fall and suggestions on how to wear them. If you want to follow the trends without breaking the bank, look into trying out some of my DIY ideas to update the shoes you own.
2010 Trend: Oxfords. High heeled oxfords look great with tailored pieces that you already own. Plain, straight skirts, pants and tailored tops work best with this sexy librarian look. Many of the oxfords shown this season are patterned or textured so a subdued outfit works best.
2010 Trend: Fur pom poms. Yes, that’s what it says. It seems a little tuft of fur is showing up on ballet flats and pumps alike. This feminine look can be paired with a feminine outfit or contrast your everyday jeans with a soft pair of shoes.
DIY- While new shoes are always fun, you can recreate this look with any suede or other shoes you own. Head to the local craft or fabric store and purchase accents that you can hot glue directly on the front of your shoes. Choose a matching color or customize with a look completely your own.
2010 Trend: Retro. Mary Janes of all shapes and styles are showing up. Look for pumps with ankle straps, rounded toes, curvy heels and an overall Mad Men vibe. Wear with fitted dresses and a lady like purse. Structured bags look better with these shoes than a slouchy bag.
DIY- Well, not exactly, but be sure to scour the thrift stores and boutiques for a pair of authentic retro shoes. They will be unique to you and possibly much less expensive.
2010 Trend: Animal Prints. Personally, I have finally come around to these wild patterns and bought a pair of cheetah print shoes. Flats or heels this look should not be worn head to toe. A surprising wild peek is all you need. Pair it with a coordinating hue, like black or brown. A true red is also a possibility.
2010 Trend: Gray Flannel. Soft gray is a new look that can soften a black outfit, or give a wintery feel to a pair of dress jeans. Gray coordinates well with blue, black, red and purple, making an investment is this color worth it. They are shown in flats, short boots as well as heels and clogs Fall 2010.
2010 Trend: Clogs. Speaking of clogs, high-heeled clogs are back. This 70’s inspired look should be paired with simple bottoms; jeans, skirts. Steer clear of nylons when choosing these for the day. The bohemian look does not look right with nude pantyhose. Opaque tights, knit knee-highs or barefoot is the way to go.
2010 Trend: Grommets, Chains, Zippers. Textured shoes that draw attention to themselves with hardware are hot this season. Wear with an outfit that always the details to show. The toughness is a nice contrast to soft, fabrics like velvet, wools, silks. Try to stay away from busy patterns which can make an outfit look too busy compared to the shoe.
DIY-Again, hit your local fabric or craft store and pick up small chains from the make it yourself jewelry section, zippers to cut into sections and other small metal items. Redo the shoes in your closet by adding hardware with a hot glue gun.
