I know March 2011 is not for a while, but it’ll get here quicker than we think. It always does. I get so excited when March rolls around. Yes, there’s March Madness, but this is something much much better. What am I talking about? Shepherds’ Conference (http://www.shepherdsfellowship.org/sc/).
If you’ve never heard of or been to this conference, allow me to paint a picture for you. Three full days and nights jam-packed with solid, biblical, gripping truths being exposited by some of the world’s best preachers. Keynote sermons from Dr. John MacArthur, Dr, Albert Mohler, Dr. Steven Lawson, Dr. Rick Holland, Phil Johnson and Tom Pennington. Numerous seminars to choose from daily, addressing various important, relevant topics for today’s biblical Christian. Great sales in the bookstore to pick up old and new books. A gift shop for men who want to impress their significant others. Delicious snacks, breakfast and lunch throughout the day, not to mention coffee and iced drinks. And, of course, the free 15-25 books/resources they give to each person signed up to go! Wow! Oh, and dare I forget to mention the complimentary services of shoe shining and hair cuts done either by professionals (for the hair cut), or by volunteers. What’s really cool is talking to them and finding out that they are people from all walks of life, whether doctors, lawyers or school teachers and students.
Seriously, it’s like Disneyland for pastors, church leaders and lay people. Except instead of rides, we get to soar on the voices of 5,000 men singing beautiful hymns. Instead of going through “It’s a Small World” we get to witness people from a vast variety of nations, gathered to worship the same God. And although there are, at times, some long lines, it goes by quickly as you get to fellowship with other believers around you.
I’ve had the blessing of going since 2007. There really is no other conference like it, in my humble opinion. That’s not to say that there aren’t other good conferences out there. I know many people love the Resolved Conferences (which just happened recently). There’s the Desiring God conference. But for me, the Shepherds’ Conferences have been some of the sweetest times of reflection, learning, fellowshipping, worshipping God and seriously, pure enjoyment.
I would highly recommend going. The price is $300, which is a lot, but you get much more than that. No joke. It’s ridiculous how much you get.
So sign up. Go. You won’t regret it. In fact, you’ll be blogging about how wonderful it was.
