Rodeo ‘” Yee — Haw! ‘” Summer Fun in Northern Nevada

by itchyfish

Fernley Vaquero Days and the Senior Pro Rodeo are combining this year. Events are scheduled for September 24 – 26, 2010. The traditional cowboy celebration will be held at the Out-of-Town Park, located off the roundabout at US Alt Hwy 50 & Farm District Road. Nevada hosts several incredible rodeos, including ones at Reno and Las Vegas. Fernley is fortunate enough to host a rodeo for cowboys and cowgirls over forty who continue to participate in demonstrating their skills, reminding viewers of the tough life on the range.

Rodeo ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for 13 – 17 years of age. Children 12 and under are free when accompanied by an adult who has paid full price. You can order tickets at the following website: www.fernleychamber.org/events/september-senior-pro-rodeo.html .

Scheduled events include bareback riding, barrel racing, bull riding, calf roping, ribbon roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, and ladies breakaway. If you haven’t attended a rodeo, this is a great time to start! Bring the family and make it a minication! Rodeos are family-fun entertainment. There’s even a mutton busting event, where the very young cowboys get their first taste of competition and rodeo life.

Currently, it looks as if the Fallon Farmer’s Market will set up in Fernley during Vaquero Days. Enjoy the tasty, local fruits and vegetables while attending the events.

Sit back and listen to some cowboy poetry. Participate in or just enjoy watching the cowboy music karaoke contest, something you won’t see or hear at just any rodeo. When’s the last time you went dancing? There’s an all-ages dance that should be a boot-scootin’ good time. Games, food, and a fair give an opportunity for every member of the family to have fun.

As noted in The Reno Gazette Journal (better known as the RGJ) staff report 7/14/10 (see their article at http://www.rgj.com/article20100714/FERNLEY03/7140387/Fernley-Vaquero-Days-seeks-vendors) , the Chamber is still seeking food and merchandise vendors. An application is available on the Chamber’s website www.fernleychamber.org/events/september-senior-pro-rodeo.html

Parking is available at the rodeo grounds and surrounding areas. There is no public transportation in Fernley, with the exception of a limited taxi service (what else, Fernley Taxi), at 775-575-6500.

Located within a mile of Out-of-Town Park are the usual fast food restaurants: Jack in the Box, Burger King, McDonald’s and Taco Bell. There’s a Quizno’s, Port-of-Subs, and Subway, Wal-Mart, and Scolari’s, a local grocery store chain.

For updates or further information on the rodeo, check the Chamber website or call the Fernley Chamber of Commerce at 775-4459.
