Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins: Product Review

by itchy fish

On a recent lunch break, a co-worker introduced me to Uncle Wally’s Rich and Moist Blueberry Muffins. The product is in a twin pack cellophane wrapped package with an outline of a slice of bread, with the words “Rich and Moist Muffins Blueberry” printed inside. The slice of bread outline has a basket lying on its side showing blueberries cascading out of the basket. Overlaid on the blueberries graphics is the name “Uncle Wally’s topped by a chef’s hat. Little did I know, until I viewed the website, that the muffins were baked by the famous cookie maker Wally Amos. I came to discover that Wally Amos of “Famous Amos” cookie fame is the manufacturer of the Rich and Moist Blueberry Muffins. He sold his cookie business in 1992 and branched out into the breakfast foods arena.

Where to Purchase
I had not seen this product in the local stores so I contacted the company’s website at www.unclewallys.com. I was informed that the product is available at Costco and is also sold to Walmart’s under their private label but it is indeed baked by Uncle Wally’s company. The muffins are available in different flavors and can be purchased in a 12 pack at the stores mentioned.

Nutrition Information
The nutrition panel states each serving size of one muffin yields 200 calories and the calories from fat are 90 calories. Total fat content is 1.5 g and trans fat content is listed at 0 g. Cholesterol is listed at 35 mg with 170 mg representing the sodium content. In the ingredients section there is a bold entry that states egg, milk, soy, wheat, walnuts and that the product may also contain almond, cashew, coconut or macadamia nuts. The information is of great importance to those individuals who suffer severe allergy reactions if any of these food items are ingested.

Quality of Taste
Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins are quite moist and not too sweet. The muffin holds its shape as you eat it and does not crumble apart due to dryness. When removed from the package, the muffin feels moist and is encased in a muffin paper holder. No special preparation is needed but in my opinion the taste is further enhanced by warming it for about 20 seconds or so in the microwave oven. Of course, a longer time is needed if using a conventional stove oven. The flavor is delectable and has pieces of blueberry throughout the muffin.

Serving Suggestions
Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins are delicious served at anytime: breakfast, a quick lunch snack or to accompany your main course at dinner.

Muffin Wedges: Cut muffins into wedges, toast in oven on a baking pan for a crunchy texture. Remove from oven, butter or spread jam on the wedges and serve with beverage of choice. Children would enjoy muffin wedges for an after school treat.

Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins can be served as an after dinner dessert as a parfait. Crumble the muffin into a chilled parfait glass and alternate with chilled pieces of desired fruit. You can top the parfait with whipped cream and a maraschino cherry.

A simple serving suggestion is to warm the Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffin and serve with a cup of hot tea or milk for a quick snack break; simple snack but yet energizing.

I highly recommend Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins. The product is not too sweet, nor is it dry or crumbly and is available in several flavors. I miss Uncle Wally at the helm of Famous Amos cookies but his culinary touch is not at all lost in his line of Rich & Moist Blueberry Muffins. For a treat, try the muffins in the other available flavors.
