Planning a romantic evening out with the special person in your life but you don’t want to have to cash in what’s left of your 401K. Make an impression with one of these unique and affordable local favorites.
Café Luna is located in an out of the way corner of the Garden City Shopping Center in Cranston. Ok, I know what you’re thinking, a romantic restaurant in a shopping plaza? Absolutely, Garden City is not a strip mall, it a stroll the sidewalks and window shop kind of place and Café Luna fits right in to its casual atmosphere.
A fusion of Parisian Coffee House and Italian Bistro, Café Luna has a warm, laid-back feel. With soft Jazz or Blues playing in the background, close intimate seating, and candlelit tables, you can’t help but want to meet your date in the middle of that shared strand of linguini. The wine list is extensive, you can purchase by the glass, bottle, or even half bottle, and the sumptuous dinners are served up plentiful and beautifully plated.
In the summer months, Café Luna offers outdoor seating in their courtyard garden. Lit by twinkling fairy lights and surrounded by planters of lush herbs and summer blooms, your date will be swept away by its dreamy ambiance.
The Melting Pot
Its location on the street level of the Providence Place Mall, I’ll admit, was a little off-putting when I first heard about this fondue restaurant. I think I said something like, “Fondue, in the mall?” “Are you kidding?” Put your visions of 1972 away for a moment and picture please, plates of ripe summer fruit alongside bite sized cheesecakes, brownies, and tiny rice crispy treats. Now envision dipping these sweet delights into a warm kettle of sumptuous chocolate while gazing into your loved ones eyes- get the picture?
With a fabulous wine list and a dinner menu that allows you to choose between several fondue cooking styles, you and your significant other can get close over a plate of filet mignon, shrimp, and lobster, or several combinations of veggies.
Although this is a chain restaurant, The Melting Pot has an upscale feel and the booth seating is intimate enough for sharing a few chocolate dipped strawberries, a summer pear martini, and some quiet conversation.
CAV is one of Providence’s most unique dining experiences. Not as laid back and intimate as Café Luna or as sensuous as dipping chocolate at The Melting Pot, CAV is by far the most impressive. CAV is the perfect place for a first date or as a special new “our place” after a marriage proposal or anniversary dinner. In the interest of full disclosure, CAV is the priciest of the three restaurants on the list but for an occasion that calls for pulling out the big guns, it’s well worth the money. With its eclectic décor featuring African art and textiles, a perfect sampling of world music and an award-winning menu that is beyond compare, CAV will delight all of your date’s senses.
The place gets crowded on weekends so reservations will be in order. If you’d like to enjoy what CAV has to offer but would like to skip the crowds and high energy level of a weekend night, I recommend you try CAV’s scandalously delicious Saturday or Sunday morning Brunch. Scrambled eggs with fresh Maine lobster and perfectly toasted sweet bread are a way to anyone’s heart. A sophisticated menu, a delightful atmosphere and beautiful art make for a date night the love of your life will not soon forget. If CAV doesn’t impress your date …I’d say that’s a deal breaker.
