The Green Hornet has not been a major character in popular culture in the last 50 years but that is all about to change with the release of the Green Hornet movie in 2011. When it was announced that Seth Rogen would be the Green Hornet many were skeptical of his ability to play an action hero but now that the trailers has been released few are doubting his ability. I was on the Iron Man band wagon way before the Internet buzz started and I knew that the first Iron Man was going to be big so when I say the Green Hornet will be big you should take my word for it.
The Green Hornet trailer can be found on yahoo movies and I would suggest you see if you have not already. I have heard of the Green Hornet but to be honest do not know much besides the original Kato TV character was played by Bruce Lee. I do not know the mythos of the Green Hornet so am not sure how closely this new Green Hornet matches the Green Hornet of old. The Green Hornet reminds me alot like Iron Man and Batman with a son who loses a father and wants to do some good. He is an average guy who uses his families money to become a super hero. I think this speaks to alot of people because they think that if only they too were rich they could be a superhero like Batman. I think that the believability of the character is what makes us like them. By using Seth Rogen I think it will really speak to the audience that anyone could be a superhero if given the opportunity. After all Seth Rogen is no Brad Pitt, but then again most of us are not either he is like Tom Hanks an everyman that we can all like.
Using Seth Rogen allows for more humor in the film but it is not just Seth Rogen who gets into the act. Kato looks like he will be a great foil to the Green Hornet. Some of the most memorable clips in the trailer are jokes involving Kato. When the Green Hornet gases himself and Kato checks on him then walks away, and when the Green Hornet complains they were caught on film running a red light and Kato blasts it are great examples of how the Green Hornet will bring humor to the role of Kato.
The trailer is similar to the new Batman films and is even more similar to the Iron Man trailers. The trailers are cut really fast with lots of action going on. Music plays a big role in the timing and visuals of the trailer. There is also alot of time between shots where there is black on the screen for a long time in terms of cuts though the black spots may be to short to notice if you were just watching and not thinking about the cinematography of the trailer.
One thing I do want to know is will they make any mention of the relationship between the Green Hornet and the Lone Range? It seems that they were created and owned by the same company at first and the Green Hornet series did make them related but the characters are no longer owned by the same companies. While I do not know much about the Green Hornet I am already looking forward to learning about the Green Hornet. I am even looking forward to the next trailer.
