This is the 1/100 scale Master Grade GAT-X105 Strike Gundam with the Launcher / Sword pack as featured in the anime Gundam Seed. The Strike mobile suit was designed to use packs that allowed iot to adapt quickly to changing combat environments. The main weapons packs consisted of 3 variants. There was an Aile Striker flight pack that attached to the Strike’s back, the Sword pack featuring a gigantic beam sword larger than the suit itself, and the Launcher pack that used a shoulder mounted rocket launcher and a huge rail type cannon. This kit features the Launcher and Sword packs. The Aile is available in the original Strike MG as well as, in modified colors, the Strike Rouge MG.
The first thing you will notice is the massive box that houses this kit. The box isn’t quite Perfect Grade sized, but it’s not for lack of trying. Once you get over the excitement or fear of what resides within that massive package you encounter 18 parts trees and several sheets of decals.
The Strike Gundam in this kit is identical to the normal Strike MG. It is straight forward in its assembly and looks incredible once complete. This is one of the easiest kits to achieve a fantastic looking display with very little work. The components are built using a semi visible chassis covered by colorful plates of armor. This creates a very visual piece without the need to do much additional detailing.
The mobile suit’s normal shield and blaster weapon are included in this kit as well. What is unusual is that the assembly instructions are actually included for these items. Most modified Gundam kits feature the original accessories as their parts are already on the same parts trees as the suit, but very seldom do the instructions call out assembly of anything but the new weapons.
Where this kit shows its difference is when you start assembling the Launcher and Sword packs. It takes longer to assemble all the bits and pieces of the weapons than the mobile suit itself. The packs are interchangeable and easily switched. This is really three models in one box.
It comes with a flight stand identical to several other MG kits. The detail on this kit is what you would expect from the Master Grade series. It is simply superb. The number of parts in this kit is impressive. It comes with a combination of standard sticker markings and the better quality rub transfer type. All the larger markings are rub. Some of the larger areas of plastic show some swirling in the mold which is a little unusual for a Master Grade. This is most noticeable on the red shield panel and some of the launcher pieces. This kit, as pictured, was completed with no paint outside of the panel detail pulled out with very fine Gundam markers of several colors. This kit will take the average builder working in the evenings around a week to complete. That is quite a bit of enjoyment per dollar. This will be a striking (pun intended) addition to your Gundam collection.
