For a unique and whimsical home accessory, consider this easy and inexpensive vinyl album monogram votive holder project! This piece also makes for a great housewarming or hostess gift idea.
For this project, you will need:
– One vinyl record album (preferably, a non-collectable or worn out one)
– Three inch tall lettering stencil
– Permanent marker
– Razor knife
– Self healing mat
– Glass votive holder in any size or shape
– Hot soapy water
– Paper towels
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White
– Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color of your choice
– Hot glue gun with glue sticks
– One inch wide satin ribbon in a coordinating color
– Coordinating colored or cream colored votive candle
– Newspaper or large drop cloth
To start this project, cover your work area in a few sheets of old newspaper or a large drop cloth. Wash the clear glass votive holder in hot soapy water, then rinse well. Dry any moisture off both the outside and inside of the votive holder. Make sure the glass is free from all residue before proceeding.
Turn the votive upside down. Spray the bottom and outside of the candleholder with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Primer in All-Purpose White. Let it dry for about an hour before continuing. Paint the votive holder with Krylon Indoor Outdoor Paint in a color of your choice. Keep adding coats of paint to the glass, pausing twenty minutes between each, until you reach a desired level of color. Allow the glass to dry overnight.
Place the vinyl record flat on the self healing mat. In permanent marker, trace the letter from the stencil onto the vinyl. Carefully cut out the vinyl album letter with a razor knife.
Cut a length of one inch wide satin ribbon in a coordinating color long enough to wrap around the votive holder horizontally. Adhere the vinyl letter to the ribbon with a bit of hot glue. Once dry, adhere the ribbon around the votive holder horizontally with more hot glue. Cool completely. Insert a votive candle in a coordinating or cream color and enjoy.
TIP: These can also be customized for various holidays, such as Halloween or Christmas. For a project variation, consider using a music note stencil to create another vinyl album cutout. Adhere the note on the opposite area of the votive holder as the initial letter.
