Like any college application process, there are requirements for online colleges as well. Applications and transcripts must be submitted. Prerequisites vary by college. In addition, they vary by program. However, the following are the general requirements for most online colleges.
According to information on the Western Governors University website, one who wants to be admitted into their university must first fill out a simple information form with information like name, address, phone and prior education. It is also necessary to have completed high school or gotten a GED or the equivalent. Next, the applicant must send transcripts from all other colleges. This is necessary to make sure you don’t repeat courses and also to make sure that you are given credit for units already completed. After this, fill out a contact form so that an enrollment counselor can contact you.
As for National University, potential students are required to take the ACCUPLACER mathematics and English evaluation. This is an exam that tests basic skills in math and English. The point of the test is to see if applicants have the skills necessary to be successful in their studies. If you have less than 90 units from another accredited college, one must have a high school diploma or a GED. International and military students can also apply at this school.
At the University of Phoenix, one needs to have “a high school diploma, GED, California High School Proficiency Examination certificate or foreign secondary school equivalent.” Additionally, the school wants people to be “currently employed” or have access to an “environment” that allows the student to apply what they are learning to some sort of system. You also need to prove you are a U.S. citizen, permanent U.S resident or hold a valid visa.
At Devry, there are different requirements for U.S. students, military students, international and Canadian students. The process involves having an interview with a DeVry University Admissions Advisor. The applicant must be 17 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent and satisfy Devry’s educational performance requirements. If students didn’t well in high school or in an associate degree program, they “must complete the basic and prerequisite skills evaluation.”
Some programs may have other requirements. However, for most you seem to need transcripts, a high school diploma or GED and need to fill out an application of some sort.
Graduate Admission is a similar process to undergraduate admissions. An applicant must submit proof of a bachelor’s degree along with transcripts.
At National, admission “is based on evidence including the student’s academic record in other institutions, test scores, interviews, professional experience, motivation, and educational objectives.” Furthermore, along with having a bachelor’s degree, prospective students need a 2.5 or better. Or, the student can have a 2.75 or higher GPA during the last 90-quarter units. Without a high enough GPA, students can still be admitted if they have a sufficient score on the GMAT, GRE, Miller Analogies Test or other appropriate test. It is still possible to be admitted without these requirements. Yet, realize you may be on probation. National also requires a $60 application fee.
To obtain admission to a Master’s Program at the University of Phoenix, one must have an undergraduate degree from an accredited school. Applicants must also furnish proof of at least three years of “full-time, post high school work.” Additionally, students must show transcripts that reveal at least a 2.5 GPA in undergrad work.
If the applicant is transferring from another college, the process is different for each individual. At WGU, “a personal evaluation of your transcripts from prior colleges will be needed to determine whether you will be able to clear any degree requirements.”
At National, you need to have cumulative GPA is 2.0 or higher from previous college. If not, the student will be placed on probation.
At DeVry and other institutions, the student may request a transfer evaluation to examine transcripts and see the best course of action. Transferring can sometimes be a difficult process and it is nice to have someone guide you through the process.
Sometimes, requirements may seem difficult at times. Yet, once you have all your paperwork in order, the options are endless. If you did not graduate high school and don’t have a GED, consider studying and taking the test. Find out more information at my-ged.com.
