On June 21, Eminem released a new album, titled Recovery. It is called Recovery because he recorded it after he left rehab. He also released Relapse after he got out of rehab, but he was still in the detoxification process. This is his first album in years where he has been completely “clean.” The album features Lil Wayne, P!nk and Rihanna. My favorite song on the album is Spacebound, but the most popular songs are Love the Way You Lie, which features Rihanna, and Won’t Back Down, featuring P!nk.
This is a good album for a few reasons. The first is the anger. Now that Eminem is “clean” he seems to be angry again, and this album resembles some of his older stuff, like Marshal Mathers LP. Some of the songs are great, but other ones are really pretty bad. I don’t really like “W.T.P.” W.T.P. stands for “White Trash Party,” and this song doesn’t mean anything. It is the only Eminem song I have listened to in a while that doesn’t have any meaning. It just seems stupid, like a Justin Bieber song.
The second thing that makes the album good is that Eminem is very conscious. Though there are songs that are terrible and have no value whatsoever (W.T.P.), there are also songs that are fantastic. “Love the Way You Lie” is about someone Eminem loved who left, but some of the lyrics are so strong that the song just seems to hit you like a lead pipe. For example:
You ever love somebody so much you can barely breathe when you’re with ’em? You meet, and neither one of you even know what hit ’em. Got the warm fuzzy feeling, yeah those chills, I used to get ’em, but now you’re getting f**king sick of looking at ’em.
So, this is pretty tough stuff. But no worries, this album is pretty easy to stomach. There’s nothing too bad on here like “Kim” on Marshal Mathers LP, and there’s no Ken Kaniff either, which is good, because that guy just sort of scares me.
This is one of his best albums, which is surprising. Normally, when Eminem releases an album, no one likes it for at least a few years. Almost no one likes Relapse as much as they like The Eminem Show. That’s because The Eminem Show is older. In 5 years, people may like Relapse better. We can’t know. This has the potential to be his best album, because it just came out and people already love it. I wish Eminem success, because his music is fantastic. I would have to rate this music gold at 5 stars. Definitely purchase this album if you haven’t yet. Oh, and the Deluxe Version is better. The booklet from the physical version of the CD is included as a PDF File, it has more songs, and it has the “Not Afraid” music video. It’s a lot better, and worth the extra three dollars. I mean, think about it, you get a music video that’s worth two dollars and at least three dollars worth of songs. In the end, you save money. Definitely get a copy of this one. It’s epic.
